Well I spent a couple of hours today getting this thing on. I got it on nice and strong now. One of the lights is out but after all the years this thing has been on one light being out isn't so bad.
I will get some better shots in the day later on after I clean it up some more and get the wiring done a little better.
Raised it up about half an inch to get ready for the Germany winter and put the mud and snow tires back on it. Hit them with some paint to hide the ugly silver.
I am loving this beagle bar. I can't wait to get the other light fixed to see what those PIAAs do in the dark.
Decided to mount these Borbets since nobody wanted to buy them. Actually look pretty good on the wagon. Only problem was that the brake rubbed the inside of the rim.
I think these will now be the new summer rims (until I figure out how to either weld on some metal flares, or bolt on some fiberglass ones to mount those Sportmax rims) but I will have to get some spacers and flare the fenders.
See the shiny part on the outside of the center hub there. That is where the brake was rubbing.
This is just another pic while we were out exploring Germany.
On the pic with the inside of the rim where the bolt holes mount you will see where the brake caliper rubbed on the rim. The car would not roll down hill. I wasn't sure what it was till I looked in the wheel and saw aluminum shavings.
I think the rims fit the wagon very well. I think I am going to buy some new center caps that are flat and don't have that stupid raised bolt looking thing.
Sorry Wago but there is no way I am giving up this bull bar
about the fender flares, maybe I can help you with that. I'm currently thinking of making full fiberglass front fenders this winter so maybe I can build some and make some customs (wider ones) for you.
That sounds great but I am thinking about widening the front and the back. So I would need something for the rear too. I will hopefully have a set of bolt on bubble flares from an S13 Nissan here soon (hopefully within the next month) and want to see how close those would be to just drilling a few holes and mounting them. I am a little worried about the space between the rear door and the wheel well though. When they get here I will take pics of them on the car. I really want to widen the stance of the little wagon. I think it will look tough (hopefully)
I can always make some for the rear fenders to, I'm gona make some anyways for my wagon. I'll post some pics if they're finished and then if anyone wants some I'll make some more.
Yes I have. Like I told you I found an old German car that has some pretty good metal flares on it stock. Since everything rusts here in Germany (wheels arches the first to go) replacements metal is very easy to get here. I am going to try both, but the bubble flares can either go on my Nissan or the Wagon so this is just a test to see what it looks like. I would prefer to go the weld on route as I think it might give me the more stock look. I also think the weld on flares would give me about two more inches of flare but I am still just messing around with the idea. The borbets look pretty damn good on there so we will see.
I remember someone posting up that VW wheel arches were a good match to the shuttle. I saw some on a VW Golf the other day which really looked like they suit and you're sure to find some of them over there
I think you are thinking of the plastic ones that come on the GT models. I am looking at Metal flares that i will have to weld on there. Not sure yet if I am going to go through with it or not but I do have an extra set of fenders I want to try and mess up :?
My wife said she had found some bubbles in the paint the other day so today I went to investigate. We all know bubbles in the paint mean it is rusting from the other side which wasn't good. So I started to scrape the bubbles and here is what I found.
So I jacked the car up and took the wheel off to get a better look at what was underneath. Started to scrape some more and chunks of metal started falling off.
You can see that most of the inner lip is gone too.
So I told my wife she has a couple of options. Buy a new car or fix the wagon. My wife said we will fix the wagon. If anybody has ever been here in Germany they will know that this kind of work is not cheap at all. This one fender well can cost us close to a thousand bucks, but the wife loves her wagon so next year we will have it fixed. In the meantime I have done some surgery on the little wagon.
Spot welded some metal over the holes, and cut a strip of metal to make a new lip. Siliconed behind the lip, a thick rubberized coating, then some rustoleum paint.
Here is a pic of the new 4x114 lug adapter with my Kakimoto 16x7 wheels on there.
It took the better part of the day to fix this thing. I am going to pop the side skirts off and see if there is any damage under there. I am going to rust proof and hopefully the paint I bought will match it up pretty good. We will see hopefully the surgery will last a little longer.
Im glad you and your wife decided to keep her. Your shuttle is definately worth fixing. The consoles are great. I have to get some interior spray paint to match them to our interiors. Thanks Again.
Well my car was getting a little low on the thread list so I had to put something on to bring it back up. Can't just bump a car without doing something with it.
So I bought this different lower console. I hadn't seen it before for a wagon. Looks like the JDM CRX/CIVIC lower consoles but this one was wagon specific so no gap.

And here is the PIAA lights finally working.

So how are the lower consoles NJ?

Lame mod I know but hey it is a mod
Did you have to cut it about at all to fit the DIN unit into it ?
UK one is similar but looks like not enough space for DIN.
