Type in ,"convert 4wd" in the Search & your answer is there.
 Please people do a Search b4 askin questions.

The only part that's wrong is you DON'T need to weld-in a different right side frame trans mount.
  • its as easy as trading me all your 4wd stuff for my 2wd stuff :P

I'm not sure you know what you are talking about here. The spot welded in mount on the right side of the engine compartment is different in the manual transmission RT4WD than it is for the other 3 drivetrain configurations. If you're going to suggest that some sort of spacers could be used to make up the approx. 1" difference in height between the 2, that's different, but if the OP wants to use the OEM configuration then that mount needs to be changed.

That spacer is a OEM part that's already on the 2WD tranny. It's a stamp steel piece between the tranny & trans mount.

Well let's see what happens when the OP follows your suggestions...
  • Hasn't the Rt4wd/2wd motor mount problem been solved? Whats with another agument about it???

Thanks evol911.The difference in views was from this early link:
    viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6045&p=65062&hilit=convert+4wd#p65062

This will answer phixx's conversion question too. There's 2 reasons you don't need the 1" spacer:
1)Jaker used the 4WD brkt(between trans mount & tranny) to mount to the 2WD tranny .It was a 1" too short so Jaker welded another brkt in.All he needed was the 2WD brkt, which is a 1" taller. The Honda part #'s for these brkts different.

2)The most compiling evidence is my 4WD Wgn. was converted to a 2WD tranny.I NEVER used a spacer or rewelded the frame brkt.I bought my 4WD w/ a broken tranny,I didn't need a 4WD & wanted a more reliable 2WD tranny for better gas mileage.

Was your 4WD an automatic or a manual transmission? Did you swap in an automatic 2WD transmission? I went from a 2WD manual transmission to a 4WD manual transmission. Here are photos of the transmission mounts, as attached to the aluminum transmission casing:

2WD manual transmission (sorry, couldn't find an OEM mount so you'll have to make do with the Hasport D series OEM replacement):

    4WD manual transmission:

So as you can obviously see, they're very different, and there's no way I could have mixed them up, or tried to use the 2WD mount with the 4WD tranny, or vice versa. I do know for a fact that the piece spot welded to the chassis by Honda is unique for the RT4WD manual transmissison car, and it is the same/common for the manual equipped 2WD, the automatic equipped 2WD and the automatic equipped 4WD.
  • Stuff I can vouch about:
    Parts Diagram
^ Check the OEM parts catalog, you can see the three different mounts in the upper left corner.

(Part #5) Manual RT4wd transmission mounts bolt to the side of the transmision accessed through the passenger fender well. The bastard mount of Honda FACT!

(Part #3) Manual 2wd is a different mount and is the most common shared between CRX, Hatch, 4dr, Wagon FACT!

(Part #4) Automatic RT4wd/ 2wd are different mounts FACT!

As for the spot welded bracket to the passenger side of the engine bay, no idea

I did the opposite...4WD to 2WD(both manual) as Phixx wants to do .From lookin at the pics I guess I used both 2WD mounts. :o NO Spacer or rewelded brkt.

Just had a thought (look at pic Evol911 supplied)...Jakermay have used the rear 2WD(#11) trans mount instead of the 4WD one(#13), which caused the prob with (# 5).

Nope! I used the 4WD part there as well. The 2WD bracket won't bolt to the 4WD transmission, nor will it have the bolt holes for the shifter cables bracket.

Is there any chance your motor is just sitting crooked in your engine compartment because the tranny side it too high?
