The BAD:It'll cost you around $$6,000 to do the motor.

shenrie, HOT ROD's been changing.
  SiWagon TIP: For you newbies.Read HOT ROD.You can learn a lot from their "How 2 " articles. Most "Tuner Mags" DON"T do DYI articles like HOT ROD does.Articles about how headers work, body mods(scoops, flares, rolling fenders, etc.),exhaust design, painting your own car, porting heads, motor swaps,ECU tech, suspension (both drag & road racing)etc.A lot of this is about V8's,but a engine is a engine. They're guys out there that've built cars from all the stuff they learned from HOT ROD mag.
shenrie,
I agree with you,but I look at the D-Series as another choice.Mayb a dude likes the OEM look and wants to pass the Texas smog (the sniffer & visual)w/o doing the REF thing. My feeling is this car would not pass if they knew what was inside this block.Am I right Daven :?:
The D-Series has since been replaced by a B-Series this year that is normally aspirated(no blower) with 300hp =250 HP on a chassic dyno.Interesting article & ideas that can be used on our wagons @ link below.
NOTE:I DON"T recommend the KONI double adjustable. For the street this is OVERKILL.I have a few sets for testing purposes. They're BLING :!: BLING :!: The usaul street KONI's are fine, even these I consider too pricey for the street(must have for AUTOX).The OEM 1's are quite good.

As for magazines, I gave up on mags. I quit reading the Mt bike mags, the snowboard mags, and the car mags. The same shit over and over and over again, for every sport, hobby etc.... I can pick up an issue once a year and be totally caught up, or I see the goods posted in places like this without having to thumb through 100 pages of crap
Wow, the old one. Now theres a place I havent been to in a lot of years. Crazy shit.
Back in the day they used to have DIY buildup stuff but now its just advertising for someone else to do it for you.
The S/C D series article is old but very interesting nonetheless and I had the Hot Rod mag somewhere. I have heard the debates on this topic from a few different boards and it can get pretty deep.
I also agree that there are other better magazines out there that offer some good DIYs.
The truth is, B and D are dead motors. So no matter what you choose its already extinct...
damn how depressing, everything in my garage is extinct.
Like I've said b4...the K20a3(160hp) & the Hasport Kit for about $3,000 is a great option with future potential. Fits in the gen4 wagon. The FIT needs a lot more work to get it in.
Likewise, but my extinct motor havin cars still put the asswhooping to a lot of "non-extinct" cars at the local autox's. So I dont feel too bad about it
Si Wagon, as for your Koni Comment, Im lost. You dont recommend the Koni double adjustable for the street? Why? That makes no sense at all. I run a Double adjustable coilover (height, rebound, and compression all independant) on my hatch, and I drive it back and forth to work every day. Thats what its made for. They are only over kill if you dont understand or learn how to use them. They are perfect for daily driving, then adjusting for the canyons, autocross, and track days!
I'm just looking at it from a cost standpoint. If you got the $$$ and want to run the DA KONI's that's your choice. One can get much better performance putting that extra $$$ in something else like springs, rear sway bar or headers.
Sorry man, but I have to STRONGLY disagree with you here. Next to your tires, suspension is the first upgrade any “performance” enthusiast should do, and probably the most important. What gets your tires to stick to the ground?
Suspension is what makes or breaks a performance car, and probably one of the most misunderstood upgrades by enthusiasts. Saying the money is better spent on a set of springs makes no sense, what controls your springs? The damper. If your dampers suck, all the spring rate changes in the world aren’t going to help you. In a track setting, cars win on the suspension setups. Watch any race you want, those races are decided in the corners.
For my own Wagon, I’m not worried about tackling any hill climb just yet, so all I need out of the suspension is a lower stance, but I still will be getting a matched shock and spring set to be sure that I get a comfortable and well handling ride.
However my hatch gets driven daily during the week, gets pushed through the mountains on the weekends, or auto crossed, or tracked depending on what I can get out to. The motor is basically stock right now with bolt ons, but the suspension makes the car. Having a double adjustable on the car makes this possible and competitive.
I am not saying everyone should rush right out and buy a double adjustable shock solution by any means, as most won’t know how to use it, and it is a very technical piece. And yes, it very much can be over kill for some. However to make the statement that they are a waste of money for street cars is totally wrong in my view. I would rather have control over my compression adjustment in the damper than just trying to bump up my compression with the crutch that is a bar, and having my tires stick is way more important to me than the 3 HP I might gain by adding a header to a Honda.
I guess we need to agree to disagree.

I never said that . :?
I said: If a racer asked me ,"Should I buy a set of KONI Double Adjustables ? ".
I'd reply,"Get a regular set of KONI's,a set of nice springs like Eibachs,a rear sway bar and keep the change".8)
I took this to mean a waste of money.
Again, Id say we just disagree. If a “racer” asked me if he should buy a double adjustable shock, I would ask him what he uses the car for, what type of racing, what his future plans for the car are.
Anyway, to each his own.
