Thinking of Doing a ZC Swap...

I'll been looking and looking around at all sorts of engines and due to reality kicking in, I figure my most economic choice would be a zc. I searched for the info but the links for the differences between them are dead. I've seen several different types on tiger japanese. Anyone have any live links that could help me?

    First Q, Single or dual?

Second Q, if single vtec or non?

Third Q, whats wrong with the current motor?

If your just looking for more power. deck the block and mill the head. A HMT setup will be about the cost of a swap IMO. but thats just my .02

EDIT: I know im gonna get flammed for it but here, hope it helps

Well the main thing is that I'm not sure which one I want, I kind of wanted to know the specs
Yeah I do want a little more power but the current engine is okay but it does have its annoying quirks. I kind of wanted something different to build

I did wiki it, but it kind of was confusing...

okay a SOHC ZC like I have in my wagon is the same thing as a A6 but with a milder cam. as for the DOHC, Joe (evoll911) did a DOHC swap and he is loving it. if you want info on the dualies here you go http://www.d-series.org/forums/dohc-zc/ ... -list.html . I love my single and if I do anything it would be a Z6 head. but the way it is, well is great.

I think this decision is something you are going to have to research and decide on your own and especially what kind of budget you have. There are a lot of comparison threads between the sohc and the dohc. All the CRX's here have the DOHCZC and they are pretty quick even in stock form. Makes me think I should have swapped my ZC in years ago.

    that's cool
what i really wanted was to see comparisons of each of the models (like hp, torque, displacement. etc) so I can pick. Most of them I've seen are definitly in my budget

    DOHC ZC'S FTW

....but let me tell you why! DOHC ZC's have a good amount of torque and like ragen said they are a fast motor in stock trim. ZC's were basically the "Type R" before the b-series junk

I've had mine for about two months and never really beat on it but I'm already accustomed to it, meaning is doesn't really surprise me anymore. I know its fast but you always want more speed. Something opened my eyes about just how quick my motor is this weekend and here is how the story goes... Harry (northwest_war_wagon) just recently traded his wagon for a very clean '91(I think) Civ Hatch with a semi-built N/A D16z6 :( :? . From what he tells me the motor made roughly 140hp at the wheels, so we did the "take a ride in my car, take a ride in your car" dyno shootout  and we both agreed that my car pulled just as much if not harder than his lighter hatch. I'm betting with his wheel spin and my RT4wd hook-up, I would probably take him but thats neither here nor there.

A SOHC or DOHC would be cool. I've beat the piss out of DOHC ZC's and they take it and love it. They sound so nasty, totally different sound then other Honda motors. I would personally go with the DOHC if you can find at a good price, SOHC will definitely be cheaper.

I like this list for reference. Great site for swap research, btw.

    ZC 1590 137@6800 108@5700 9.5:1 75 90 dohc no 0 1990-1993 CRX (JDM)

That is wrong. It has 129HP..

EDIT: and production ended in 1991 AFAIK.

I have learned not to trust alot of stuff on HS. the D-series info is much more reliable.

I'm definitely leaning towards the DOHC, but is there any pros or cons for getting one that's a little newer than the ones from 88-91?
  • evol911evol911 familEE
If its newer than 88-91 then its OBD-1 and thats means OBD0-OBD1 conversion which is kind of a pain in the ass if you never done any wiring before. I would stick with the 88-91 for the ease of it. No wiring changes at all well except for a little sub harness for the distributor/cylinder position sensor. ZC Distributor Adapter
