New Ignition Cables

I think I'm about due for some new spark plug wires. Any recs? I don't want to spend a fortune, but want to get something decent.

NGK Blues. No doubt. Honda uses the NGK blacks as OE leads and the NGK blues are about 30% better in terms of reducing interfearance.

You can spend more and get other wires like MSD, tommygun etc. but even the stock leads are proven to handle some serious ammounts of power. Heck, even the whole stock ignition system.

I have stock on my wagon and MSD on the teg. Me personally I would go with the NGK blues. Only reason I got the MSD is they came with the car.

I checked pricing. NGK and Bosch were both about $25, MSD was $96. Wow, MSD is expensive. Looks like NGK will be fine. The website was pushing Bosch over NGK for some reason. Any opinions on those two compared together?

NEVER USE BOSCH PARTS IN A HONDA! Only bosch thing i use is the wideband to my lc-1. Bosch if a big VDub parts maker. $25 sounds like just the stock NGK wires. Like we stated before NGK Blues are the way to go.

Those things are scarce locally. Called Murrays, PepBoys, NAPA, and AZ; no one stocks them. Maybe I'll have to buy them online, but I would prefer not to in case of problems (wrong or defective wire).

those were the first option on Advance Auto Parts' listing when i ordered my wires from my local store. i wasnt really trying to get them, they just happened to have them as first choice in stock =] (so i got lucky).

    try Advance.

I called Advance. They wanted $38 plus sales tax, so I'm going to get them online and save $10.

NGK blues and plugs made a world of difference on mine. Before the install I thought my dizzy needed replacement, the engine was running very crappy.
  • is it the same for all d series engines? d16a1 d16a6 d16z6 d16y8 d15b d17?

    thanks

    Is what the same?

Yes and no. They can be made to fit. Someone here just did a head swap and used the stock a6 cables but they had to be modified to fit I think it was a Z6 head?

SOHC heads with the plug 'tubes" in the front require different wires than SOHC heads with plug "tubes" in the rear. The can be made to fit but it won't be an OEM fit.
  • thanks for the info my bretherens.

It gets better. I put them in my shopping cart the other day. So today I went to that site to order and pay for them, and they had raised the price from $27 to $29. So I called their 800 sales number to find out why and the dude who answered said they just had a price increase, and he couldn't go any lower. So he gave me free shipping. I didn't even ask for it. So I got them for $29, shipped, no taxes. Good people.
