wagon wont start...need help asap!!! [solved]

so the past couple days my wagon has been making noise and it sounded like the power steering pump goin bad cause it leaked for awhile and i wasnt too good at keeping oil in it. it sounded like a pulley or bearing going out. it was just kinda a grinding noise. but today i popped the hood to cause it got a ton louder then a couple days ago. well it was the distributor making all the noise.

when i had my crx the distributor bearing went out and the shaft was wobbling around in the distributor causing the rotor to eat my cap. so instantly i went home and pulled the cap. when this happeded in my rex you could physically wobble the rotor. well you cant. its perfectly fine.

so i figured the allen head for the rotor came loose. nope.

the inside of my cap and distibutor is covered in a red dust. it looks like rust dust. like when you take a da to a rust spot. idk where its from cause my cap and rotor are brand new. and when i drove on the old cap and rotor for like 400 miles before i chanded them and when i changed them there wasnt anything outta the ordinary.

my fuel pump works. i can hear it and i cracked the fuel relief on the fuel filter and gas came out. i put a spark tester and when you crank the car over all 4 plugs get spark. even did it the old way and grounded the plug to the vc and it sparked that way too.

but it just wont start. i double and triple checked my plug wires. everything is brand new feb 09. cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, timing belt, water pump, pcv valve.the only thing is im do for an oil change.

it just cranks and cranks.

anyone got any ideas. i need this running asap cause its my only car...

  • Need a new dizzy. the bearing in the dizzy went bad and probably overheated all the stuff in your dizzy. Try another dizzy!

I agree. I have heard of failed distributor bearings causing the timing belt to jump a tooth or more, though I haven't seen it happen. Just something to check, but you definitely need a distributor.

but why am i still getting spark to all the plugs?
  • checked fuel pump also?
    sensors?

  • I'm sure they are getting spark but I bet sensors are messed up in your distributor causing timing errors with the injectors if it is even signaling to your injectors that the car is turning over. I would try a distributor that you know works then go from there.

that is the same conclusion i came to today. my father messed with the plug wires today. he set them something like 1-4-2-3. and it should be 1-3-4-2. but it started with them all jacked up. so i figure im getting spark just at the wrong time. so im gonna buy a distributor monday.

anyone got one for cheap??? its for a d16a6.
  • I don't think that its getting spark at the wrong time, I think your injectors are spraying fuel at the wrong time and changing the plug wires around probably timed it with the injectors.

does your distributor control the injectors also? if it does i def didnt know that. but it would make sense also.
  • The crank angle sensor and the cylinder position sensor are in the dizzy on the A6 motor and most SOHC obd0 motors. These are used by the ECU for ignition timing, injector timing and start-up. And a common problem is the bearing going out in the dizzy which in turn overheats the sensors causing them to be incorrect or fail completely. So say that your injectors are firing 180 degrees out and then you switch your wires around, then you have spark at the correct time you have fuel. Did you notice any strong gas fumes out of your exhaust try to starting it? Hopefully the dizzy corrects it, I would hate to give you wrong info but the dizzy seems like the problem just reading your post and being able to be there in person.

you were exactly right. i took the dizzy out and couldnt even turn the shaft anymore. i put a new one in and it fired right up. thanks for all the help
