4wd rear disc brakes bracket?

  • Jaker thanks for the reply. which is better economically and performance wise? ep3, ItR. or txs? i thought of using teg coz its a lot at the JY. i thought also since some big brake kit uses the same caliper only that the rotors are bigger. if i go use ep3/itr/tsx, it might be more expensive since this are from a newer model.

    Correct.
which (caliper)is better economically and performance wise? ... since some big brake kit uses the same caliper only that the rotors are bigger.
We'll be using calipers like off a CRX or Teg to answer your question. You're also right about using the same caliper for both rotors(9.4-10.2").Depending on the caliper the other probs are eBrake bracket location ,Yes LCA & brake hose location too & later Hondas used different eBake cables.
  • oh yeah your right. i forgot all about the ebrake cable bracket. well the first thing to worry is the caliper bracket itself.

so do they not fit on wagons or what?
  • i havent actually tried it but i believe it can be done. i have to fab the bracket for the caliper and the bracket thats holds the ebrake cable since the caliper must be mounted either 1 or 2 o"clock position compare to tegs 3 o"clock position. i was thinking of getting the caliper bracket from a teg and mod it to fit or fab one but i dont have access to a cnc machine. maybe someday if ill get an extra set of trailing arms since i cant afford to take off mine coz i only have one car left.

Well I tried today to help you guys and the maker of those ebay brackets. I contacted him about 1 week ago to say I would be down in Seattle today, and I'd bring a FWD and a 4WD trailing arm with me to loan him for trial fitting. He said sure, but was being evasive about giving me any contact info other than an email address. I emailed him yesterday for the 2-3rd time trying to get a phone number so I could call him when I was down there. He never replied with a phone number.

I drove down to Seattle with the trailing arms in my truck, and drove back at 3:00 with the arms still in my truck. I guess he doesn't want any Wagon business. Sorry guys.
  • so thats was you on ebay asking the guy to try out the trailing arm for civic wagon. thanks for the effort in doing so and bringing those trailing arms with you to seattle. i guess he doesnt want our business.

we will try to figure out ourselves on how to fab brackets for our rear disk.

    thanks again.

I hate to be the Grim Reaper. The Ebay brkts won't work. :( One observation is there's NO splash shield. The biggest reason they won't work is caliper placement...All the rear Wgn.rear disc conversions I've seen have the caliper at the 2-3'o clock position. If you look that the following link.Click on to the 1st link on my 1st posting. What he did was to bend the H  LL out of the eBrake brkt. It's a poor pic:

A different caliper will be done differently. All the Wgn. probs as far as the disc conversion are caliper related.

    That's why no 1 has brought 1. :x

no difinitive rt rear disc conversion yet? ive got a spare set of arms just need some rotors and calipers then im gunna tackel this i know with the help of my machienest buddy i can do this ive already got an idea in my mind.
  • klumklum Senior Wagonist
i really dont know why its so hard for this to be done... if i had a welder tools and like 500 $ i bet i could cook something up. id try to mod. the caliper bracket first since its already a platform. just add/ remove parts of it.
  • turbo_tegturbo_teg Council Member
i dont think its gunna take a welder i think its gunna be some machine work and some how makin the ebreak cable work. i want to use DA rear breaks but im thinkin the ep3 rotors are gunna be the ticket to makin room for the break cables. the cool thing is the guy thats gunna help me owns an ep3 so we can try out the integra stuff and ep3 stuff to see what works.

thats whats up. CNC machine then. XD
    keep us posted.

I picked up Shenrie's old rear trailing arm that be damaged on his wagon. I have a set of teg calipers and rotors and I've got mocked up. There are clearance issues, but I think I can make a bracket that will work good for the caliper and the ebrake cables. I'll take some pics of my progress. You'll need to do some cutting, but if I can make it work I'm gonna try and make the caliper bracket and the ebrake cable bracket the same piece. If it works, it will be a really easy mod. I'll go get some pics.

Here are the pics of the work I did today on the RT4WD rear disc conversion. Hopefully this goes better than the B2D conversion. he he

These parts are off of a 95 Integra 2dr LS.

Pic of the rotor on from the outside

Pic of the rotor from the inside
    image_125.jpg
Here I had to cut off the lip of the rear trailing arm to get the caliper to fit (hopefully this will be the only modification needed to the rear trailing arm)
    image_126.jpg
This is a pic of the caliper - I had to cut off the lip for the e-brake cable mount - still have some more to shave off on it too.
    image_127.jpg
Pic of the caliper on the rotor and trailing arm - pretty tight tolerances - still have a little more shaving, but it does mount all the way onto the rotor
    image_128.jpg
Pic of caliper on rotor - I was worried that I would have to do more shaving to get it on this far - luckily I didn't
    image_129.jpg
Pic of the caliper and trailing arm from the inside - see how close the caliper is - once mounting bracket is made it won't be sitting on the trailing arm.

  • it would be so nice to be able to do this... can't wait to see if it actually works out!

If everything fits right, all you'll need is the bracket and to do the grinding shown in the pictures. All the factory bolt holes will be used for the aftermarket bracket.

i bet that ep3 rotor would help the clearence issue.....
  • stampernstampern Senior Wagonist
Ya, a bigger rotor would definitely eliminate most of the clearance issues. But since this is the most common rotor and the only one I have access to, I'll work on this one. I might make a different bracket for the others if this one works since I have a space trailing arm.

i wanna have one pleeeeeeeeeease. thanks

  • Glad to see some people trying to tackle this. Wish I had some more access to parts or I would be doing the same thing.
  • stampernstampern Senior Wagonist
I'll definitely be making a lot of these if they work. I know a lot of people would like to have them on here.

i would like to thank you for tackling this mod. i dont have extra trailing arm to play with with so ill just wait for your results. ep3 rotors might have a better clearance since its 10.3 inches or better yet after market 11" might be the best option if you have the $$ to spend.

like i said ill be monitoring your progress. keep it up and more power.

    wagon..............................4ever......................
  • Have the extra trailing arm just need the bits to play with.
    Another thing for the list.
Tho TBH I like my drums.
  • hello.

    updates anyone?

even not working still got no time besides still havent gotten a hold of some DA rear calipers.
  • stampernstampern Senior Wagonist
No updates yet - been busy the last couple weeks. I'm going out of town this week, but might try to work on them next weekend. I've decided to do an original mock up using some mdf first to get the shapes down then once I get the measurements right I'm gonna send it to a buddy in Cali who has access to a C&C machine and have a set machined to test out with.

i was walking through the junkyard about 2 weeks ago and saw a wrecked 95 prelude with wheels off the rotors looked bigger that DA rotors and the rear calipers were actually mounted in the front...... i didnt get a super good look cuz it was late and the junk yard was closing. im gunna swing by there tomarrow and check it out a lil closer. i know the lug pattern is a lil bigger but i could get my buddy to re-drill the right pattern.... iono its just an idea i bet something will screw me...... and not in a good way
