Please help with Civic Aerodeck 5th Gen. MC1

I need help. I just can't find any suspension options for my 1998 Civic aerodeck, it's a 5th generation civic with a chassis code MC1 with a stock D16 engine.

Can anyone help? Pleeeeeease! I would love a full set of adjustable coilovers but will consider anything at the moment.

It looks low in the pic because it's fully loaded, normally there is 4" clearance at the rear.

  • Have you tried using a suspension from the same year 4 door sedan?

Not tried yet, I know the spring rates are different on these but I don't know if there are any physical differences. I think the 98 saloon/sedan was 6th gen too. I don't have the cash to buy kits that don't fit either so I need to get the right one first time really.
It would be nice to find someone who has done it from another car or a retailer who lists them.

    Thanks

You sure about that? What knowledge are you basing this statement on?

    not really

EDM Civics were pretty much a completely different car then the USDM models.

FREAKBOY, i would assume a 4-door version is the same. look and see if the stock part numbers are the same for the 4-ddor vs. the 5-door. at least the front will be the same. the rear might be (like the 4th gen wagon) wagon specific, but shouldnt be too different. best would be take a peak under there and compare it to a 4-door.

unfortunately you prolly wont find any info for the Aerodeck on this site (YET hehe) but hopefully you will add some

    anyways ;)

i agree, just because the odyssey is built off an accord doesnt mean its the same. look at the rear of that and you see where the acura mdx got its first suspension. not that the mdx went overseas, i dont think it did. who knows.
id say take some pic's of the spring set up, do some strut measurments and someone on here can throw some info at ya.

Oh hey thats a wagon  I ment to say its more related to a accord wagon. at a glance it looked like the canadian acura 1.6EL I think it is.

could you post more detailed pics and some under chassis/suspension too. it would be better to identify the similarity to other civic that might fit into your wagon. by the way i like your edm waggy ( being hooked to wagon now hahaha)

    thanks

Now it is related to an Accord?

Hey Freakboy I found some suspension setups here in Germany. It doesn't seem that anybody makes any Aerodeck specific Coilovers.

Here is some AERODECK specific Koni's

    These are Koni Yellows

    Here are some Koni Reds

Remember these are from Germany but they are Aerodeck specific.

I bet if you were to email some of the manufacturers (skunk2, etc.) they could point you in the right direction for a set of springs, sleeves or maybe coilovers that would fit. Most manufacturers would be able and willing to help I would guess. If nothing else, perhaps you could find a set of springs to go with the konis Rage linked to.
  • I hat to shit on all of you but in the UK this isn't considered to be a pure Honda.
    It's a bit of a half breed. :|

It has stock 15mm bolts/nuts FFS!!

Looks for suspension for the Rover 400 or MG ZS and you'll come up trumps.
MB6 for a chassis code (sedan, or MC2 for the estate B series) which is another varient of it (with a B18C4 (B18C1) ) from Honda whose shocks will fit it.

EK stuff should fit it as well.

You will find the rears are different to the sedan IIRC, but go for coil overs with perch and spring adjust and then it doesn't matter till you fill the boot to capacity :D
  • Hey Nominous is this another one of those Honda/Rover things?

Well it looks like and accord wagon with a acura front end

    Hello again chaps,
thanks for all the comments. I did call Koni,Jamex and Spax who were pretty unwilling to help I must say. I guess the European call centers aren't as friendly as the US ones. As I do load the car up from time to time I opted for a set of P.I. (Personal Identity) springs I found on good ol'Ebay. These were specifically matched for the aerodeck and I think it sits well on them, the cornering has improved very much even when loaded. The saloon MB6 Civic Is pretty much the same set-up but the rears would have been saggy.

This Honda is nothing to do with the demised Rover group. It was built at the Honda plant in the UK, by Honda, Just like the Accord and Jazz. Yes Honda did supply cars and engines for the Rover group in previous years but all that means is that there are some Rover cars with Honda engines in them. My lawnmower has a Honda engine?!?!? It means little more than Rover and the lawnmower company bought parts from Honda.

The Accord Aerodeck is a much bigger car, I have owned one of them too. They don't share any parts with the Civic. (well maybe a switch or two).

Well I now plan to TURBOCHARGE this thing and have bought most of the parts to do it. i'm looking forward to 10th august when it gets fitted. I had a Powerflow S/S exhaust fitted a few weeks ago which does the job nicely, I just need the cat and downpipe sorting. I'll post more info when it's done for anyone interested.

are the rover parts applicable to some honda parts also? I am having this same dilemma with my car.
  • This is a nearly two year old thread and some of these guys haven't been active in awhile. I think you might get better answers on a european forum.
  • so thats what the 5th gen looks like!

No Rover parts fit the MB/MC series Honda with the exception of Rover ARB which Honda decided not to equip their cars with and the roof panel (except aerodeck). The chassis itself was a joint design with the Part Honda owned Rover group but thats as far as it went. Honda did supply some engines to Rover also. Mostly the B16 variant.
The rest of the car is completely different.
