Sedan vs Wagon trailing arms question

Okay so I did a search on this subject and noticed that the "interchangeable" thread said that these are not interchangeable or at least not the same. It was also stated that the wagon one is beefier.

So my question is would the wagon ones fit on a sedan or is this about the same as a CRX 4wd conversion. Does anyone have a side by side? There was a 4x4 Sedan over here for sale but at 3500 euros I figured I would just use my spare parts and see if a 4wd Sedan could be made up.

I tried to search to see if anyone has done this but couldn't come up with much info.

I figured I have all the parts plus a DOHC ZC, and suspension so lets see what I could come up with.

So this is only a brainstorming session so no dumb sh#$. If i missed a thread about this please post it up.

Have a look at the thread below. This guy is using the trailing arms from the EG Sedan AWD car for his build, and he needed to shorten them. That seems to be the case for all the attempts at converting any of the FWD platforms to AWD. The Wagovan seems to be the exception to this rule. Honda engineered a set of rear trailing arms for the FWD Wagovan that are the same length as the RT4WD trailing arms (longer than all the other FWD platforms).

For some reason I guess Honda felt that there would be more need to engineer different chassis pick up points for the other models to change from FWD to 4WD. Maybe the FWD platform benefits in the handling department from the shorter trailing arms. I know the wheelbase of my FWD EF hatch is identical to my Wagovan (98").

To make a long story short, I'm 99.9% sure that the RT4WD sedan has longer trailing arms and different chassis pick up points that the FWD sedan, so yes, you'll be stuck making the trailing arms shorter to fit your chassis.

  • Thanks for the reply. I figured they wouldn't be the same. I wish I could see what the 4wd sedan is using for the rear.

Well either way it is time to start looking for a sedan. I just wish they were as cheap here as they are in the US.
