shake, rattle and roll

So as mentioned in the off topic, wagon love thread, I re-engaged my 4wd after being disengaged since a bit over a year ago. It was a bitch to re-engage though but the rolling back and forth did the trick. Anyhoo, after taking a spin, I now have a terrible shake in the rear end, more noticeable at about 45-60mph and then more like a vibration at higher speeds. I'm guessing my alignment is out of whack. Anyone else have this problem after having 4wd disengaged for a lenghty periodof time? I'm sure it's more of an alignment/suspension problem though.

    try checking the diff mounts.

Just some history regarding my mounts from a little over a year ago...

Funny... It even has the same subject line too! I will look at the mounts in the morning.
  • my service manual says check the ujoints & the 2 mounting bearings.

Hi, I get some rattling from the rear end too, when the 4wd is on, but mostly at low rpm, like if I shift in 3 at 35kph or in 4th at 45kph and then press the gas. At higher rpm the car isn't rattling from the rear (or in 2wd). does somebody know why it makes it only at low rpm and what it can be? I'll check my diff mounts. Also there are some rods attached to the suspension (on a 87 wagon, so it's solid beam) that are loose, I don't know if there is any effect.
and sometimes (feel like it's mostly on the highway) my 4wd goes off, but there is no more bolt on the switch on the tranny, nothing to screw/unscrew to put on/off. Is it important? It seems like it's gonna be hard to reach there, especially that it's rusted. The 4wd works well and stay on under load, I did some ice racing last week
