there's a sticky at the top in the Engine&Drivetrain section. there's a tentative list of what you're gonna need.

if you do a search, you'll find a lot of good, reliable sources that will walk you along the swap. this swap is so common, so you wont have a problem. for the most part, it is a direct drop-in, except for wiring etc. i think another thing is the exhaust manifold piping not lining up. i really forget. someone else is going to have to back me up on this one.

anyone else wanna drop their two cents in?

What model wagon are you dropping the ZC into? Wagovan? If so you will also need to do an MPFI swap..
  • i got a 88 rt and hope to get the motor soon. thanks for the help. if you have any more info that will help?

Ah cool if its RT4WD then its already MPFI, pretty much a direct swap of motors.

    bolt-on with zc!! easy job
  • what is my best bet for a ecu to put it in a 1991 wagon
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
If its manual and RT4WD and you did the DOHC, over in the states i'd go with the PG7 ECU... maybe even the PM7.. But PM6 works fine and dandy.
  • its an auto right now and need to stay for like three month girl can't drive a 5 spd plus i just bought a new act clutch for the 5spd so its staying an auto for right now will my 1.5 16v auto trans bolted up to my 92 jdm dohc zc and what ecu can i use to keep it an automatic for right now
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
A 92 ZC is usually OBD1 which will require an OBD0 -> OBD1 conversion.. as far as the gearbox goes, i actually have no idea about the auto side... :S

ahh shit that is alot off bads and no goods .....
  • here is some good. i changed out the plugs, checked the timing and found the intake cam was a tooth off, changed the ecu with an extra pm6, and advanced the timing to 25. now she has balls. the action clutch with a 6 puck disc realy grabs hard. so far nothing bad but the fuel. what can i do to get some milage back. what ecu came with the ZC Black Top.
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
I sometimes have the fuel consumption problems as well - mainly during warm up.

Try changing to a PM7 ecu as i am still running the PM6 ecu and im having the same probs.
  • i am going turbo so i am looking for a turbo edited ecu. need help asap. i am going turbo in a few weeks. help
