so what should i do...

ok, so im pissed and tired of trying to get my JRSC to work after about a month. i know its only going to cause me more trouble, seeing as im not boost savvy and just not in a financial situation to be able to maintain the things that go wrong with it (for example, the damn pulleys are shot). also i dont have the time right now and i need a DD seeing as im a full time architecture student without a job till the summer.

so here are my options...

-go back to stock, keep the JRSC and maybe i'll learn the magic touch that's keeping me hanging by a thread and making me pull my hair out.
-sell the JRSC and get a new motor instead. this raises more options:
1.) get a classic ol' DOHC ZC (i want to stay OBD-0. lets keep things simple.)
2.) get a SOHC something or another, like ZC VTEC or a D15B (but then i need to go OBD-1.. more headaches)
3.) go B-series, like a B18A or something.. but then i need mounts, and shift linkage. (just more spending)

4.) go K24  jk.

so yeah. also then i would have a spare engine finally to throw into my hatchback project car thats been sitting forever waiting for a heart. then that could be my DD instead.

then i could possibly boost the wagon later

also, its looking promising that my friend will be giving me a spare D15B1 with about 80K miles on it. so it could be a spare engine to rebuild, or put that in that hatchback..!?

so what should i do eh? im personally leaning towards the DOHC ZC  or B18A

  • DOHC ZC
  • Are you already MPFI?

I would keep the SC if I were you. I know how shit gets discouraging, but you are probably closer than you think. I personally would rather have a B18B and go OBD1 and tune it with an I/H/E.

Of course you could go DOHC ZC/B18A for really cheap in comparison. Just a lot more work when you already have done half the battle with your SC setup. What is the issue now? How much is that thing worth? How much do you realistically think you can swap a B18A or DOHC ZC for? Don't forget things like coolant, oil, clutch, flywheel (at least resurface), trans, ECU and all the extra junk that goes with the swap.

    read my original JRSC post...

H-Motors has them for $650. i can use my stock trans and get ECUs for $26 or so (like a PG7). coolant and oil is pretty easy to get =)
  • But with an engine swap, you should definetly figure in stuff like replace timing belt and everything with it, water pump, as many external gaskets as you can get to. It can add up but you don't really have to go that route. Your budget is the deciding factor.

    yeah true.

right now, unless i figure out whats wrong with my setup by tomorrow morning, im going back to stock at least for now. like i said, i need my car. *sigh*
  • stock !
    yahay
  • Did you ever drive the car hiccup-free with the MPFI swap, or did you do that and the JRSC at the same time?
  • BTW:

My suggestion would be B swap, but of course I'm biased.

i did the MPFI swap like 1.5 years ago and the car was running perfectly fine. put about 12,000 miles into it with the MPFI swap.

i would love a B-swap, but for now im trying to get the simplest (and mostly cheapest) replacement engine with more get-go.

Wish I had that shirt when I was stuck in the Arch. building for 36 hours straight, trying to finish up a project. At least you have the internet to entertain you, all we had was a pay phone in the hall and a couple tennis balls.
  • i think you should spend more time studying

like i said, i would hold onto the SC. put in the stuff bam gave you for now and save up to do the SC with tuning and a little engine rebuild at the same time.

i know how discouraging it gets.....

but in the long run you will be happy if you stick with what you started and build the blown D-series. it just feels good to see it come together, ESPECIALLY after it seems like it wont.

Go for the DOHC. I picked two up, one for $100+$20 for the DOHC trans and another one for $200 that needed the crank replaced. The first one is going in my CRX and the second one is in my CRX and going into the wagon once I get some axles for the first one.

Where can you get a PG7 for $26, I need another one.

where can i find a ZC for that cheap!? cheapest i've seen is $650

Fist one I got off the Southeast Honda-Tech classifieds from Jedburg, SC and second one I got from www.thezcr.com in Greenville.

You can check either of those sites or http://www.importatlanta.com/forums/ that might be closer for you.

The dohc is the same price you said but the SOHC is quite a bit cheaper.

yeah those are the ZC's i saw FS. if i go swap its going to be DOHC
  • Come over here and you can have mine. You just have to pay shipping

I can get you those EDM ZC ECU's but you know that. If you end up getting it and need anything else hit me up.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
ok, so i have to visit you in order to get it? haha awesome man.

yeah i may need an ECU for sure. thanks! i'll let you know what happens. any word on the german dude and the JRSC?

Whats the difference between the JDM and EDM? Is it the speed limiter on the JDM? I might be needing a DOHC ZC ecu but that won't be for awhile so don't go get it now. Don't want you to have to hold onto it for me.

Bring me a chipped ECU and I will make it run any motor you want. If your obd1 or I like you i will even tune it. :D
  • Well I have only really dealt with Nissan ECU's and from having a friend read the chips the difference was fuel and speed cut. The Fuel map was a bit more aggressive and the speed cut was 240 instead of 180. I would guess the same would be said for the Honda ECu's but I can't say for sure. I do have a couple of guys wanting me to source the EDM ecu's as they have also said the EDM ones were better.

If anybody can I can source a EDM ECU if anybody can compare the chips.

How about you learn TurboEdit and chip obd0? Why convert to obd1 unless you really have to?

well, thanks to bam-bam my wagon now runs  peppy little motor!!
