PS to Manual Steering?

all i need to know is if i can unbolt the power steering system from my wagon and bolt up a manual rack without having to cut or weld or modify anything in anyway. i looked in the manual and it does not specify enough to where i can tell if i can do this. please i am begging anyone to help. and thanks in advance.

Well I havent tried it yet, but with the b-motor in the car it looks as if I wont be able to use PS anymore. Ill be doing this swap here in the next couple of weeks. Allready have the manual rack, and it looks to be identical. Im guessing, and hopefully Im right, but Im pretty sure that its a bolt up affair. It would be unlike Honda to have to weld or modify something like an option in thier baseline cars.

I know theres lots of guys with the DA's that are converting to the manual rack in thier cars (and they are using the civic manual racks as there are no PS-less DA's), but I havent heard what all is involved. Ill go over to g2ic and see if I can find any info.

Well after doing a little reading it sounds like its a direct boltin from EF to DA so Im sure its the same for EF to EF. Mabie browse this thread: http://www.g2ic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88673&highlight=manual+steering+rack

thank you so much for your help. keep me posted as to how youre b swap is going. and do you think its ok to get a rack out of a junkyard because i cant fond an auto parts store that sells rebuilt ones and im sure that if i buy one from the dealership i will get raped. thanks again.

i am on the fence i kinda want to keep my poer in which case you just need a steering pump from the b series mine came with one but it was squeaking so i trashed it any only thing i know of is maybe changing the fittings on the pump to the lines very easy if you wat to keep power steering ... but i am a minamalist and want light weight and a clean engine bay ... but again i want this to be a very user friendly car and i may do some minor towing ... my previous car was a apin in the ass with no power steering it had a small momo wheel though ... and slightly wider tires so it was a double whammy little wheel heavier motor wider tires shit it was a triple whammy ......

    soo i dunno

but my point was B series swaps just require the pump and maybe the fittings at the pump ..

i know that it takes a little more effort to turn with a swap but i want to do this steering swap to keep the engine bay cleaner looking, give me a little more room and without power steering there is one lees chance of a leak. i hate leaks. and i dont care if its harder to turn because the car is only going to be a weekend warrior not a daily driver work/towing car.
    Thanks for the input though.

And can i just use a manual rack off of a crx or does it have to be a wagon?

Nate, should be able to use any rack. Hatch, crx etc. As far as buying one from a yard....its always a crapshoot. I talked to a few Honda techs and all of them said theyve never seen a rack go bad. The reason I asked them is cause the one on my girls EX sedan went bad, go figure

Akira, Thanks! That site has a lot of really good tech writeups on it. Ive been a member of that site since around 98. Lots of good guys over there too. I even did a writeup on AT to manual for the teggys, along with a few others, like how to shave the keyholes using the rear door handles from a sedan and rear lower tiebar install.
