Fuel leak...?

SO i come home from my lunch this afternoon, and i spot a puddle coming from the back end of the honda... I check it out. thought it could just be moisture thawing.. but it smelled like fuel. I can't really see where it is coming from... I'm not sure how to go about seein what it could be and where....

I changed out the brake pads yesterday on the front, nothing happened to the rear. I filled up the tank when i got back home, and i think the tank this time said 3/4+...... i don't think i've driven it since i filled it...

So.. obviosly i sounds like i could have a leak, but can anyone shed some light as to how i go about pin-pointing it and all....

  • Did a hole rust through on your exhaust? Could be some moisture leaking from your exhaust and it might just have a mild gassy smell to it.

i looked all over underneath.. didn't see anything out of the ordinary. The person i got it from did mention that after a fill up, when it's parked at a downward angle like it was.. it tends to 'spill out' from the cap...???? wtf ever... so that's my answer.. it did seem as if some came out the cap.. but that just doesnt seem right....

thats happened before with my familys 1990 wagon back in the day. we were parked on an incline and it was a warmish day out and gas was spilling out the gas cap.

dunno why though. it shouldnt do that :?

    Replace the petrol cap? LOL

This happened to my Civic Pro after i got it. Checked the gas cap and it was one of those temporary ones that doesn't seal.

i had the same problem. gas would leak out after a fill up when parked on an incline....i checked the gas cap and the seal was dry rotted. bought a new cap and no leak....and now it makes a nice psssshhhhhh sound every time i take the cap off too!

    I love easy fixes. :D

The time my Saturn started gushing coolant just after an autocross run, I was terrified that I'd just trashed my car. Turned out it was just the coolant bottle cap had worn out and lost pressure. A new one fixed it permanently. Screwing the old cap back on over a plastic bag sealed it enough for me to finish my runs for the day.
  • I also have a fuel leak. I believe it is coming from the fuel filler neck thing. Looks to be rusting out so there may be a hole somewhere along the filler. Are these easy to remove and replace? I'm thinking it isn't.

You will need to pull out the interior to get a closer look.

Can you see it from the interior? I've been digging around at mine, and it looks as though it's surrounded by sheet metal on all sides. Well, except the bottom.

Good luck finding a replacement, too. I can't find one around me. At this point, I'm thinking I might try to fab one myself. I need a new filler neck, and that weirdo curved bracket. I've never seen anything so corroded in my life that wasn't part of a shipwreck.
  • i need a filler neck bad! car makes a mess
  • I am actually dealing with a fuel problem right now and was just under my wagon, check your filler neck. I went to add a gallon or so to my wagon and it spilled right away, the part of the filler neck that connects to the tank is a rubber hose and I guess i didnt attach mine very good when In did the pump a few weeks ago and so mine was leaking out of there... Yours might have a crack in it due old age maybe?
  • the rubber is good the steel neck has rust holes all thro it tho.. im good as long as i dont get it above 3/4 of a tank. but i do want to fix it, just having trouble finding the parts
