    Tuning.

yeahhhhh i know that much :|

More what i meant is that things you have done could be effecting it. Exactly what items in your bay are not stock now?

besides the entire intake manifold being replaced by the JRSC..

    -intake tube
    -spark plugs
    -header
    -MPFI swap using PM6 ecu

not in the engine, but still effecting..

    -walbro fuel pump
    -2.25 inch catback exhaust

    thats all i think.

    basically here is what happens:
car heats up, idles fine.. a little low though and also sounds like an old pickup going "tick tick tick" which sounds like an exhaust leak which is very possible since the gasket around the cat/piping is pretty much shot since it was removed and replaced like 45459875 times.

when i tap the gas there is no reaction, its like the car is getting flooded or something. its really tricky to get it to rev up but once it does it drives 'ok'. not 'good,' but 'ok'...

the drive into savannah last night i was doing about 60-65 for about 30 minutes straight, and no CEL came on. in savannah, i was struggling with the fact that it wouldnt rev unless played with. at one point it shut off on me around 11 pm in the heart of the ghetto in some dark street and i had a panic attack.. it would not start. i would crank it, it would start and spudder at like 50 rpms (lol) for a second then just die. for about 5 minutes i tried this. anyways it finally started enough where i could rev it and i went home. on the way home i was doing about 75-85 and at that point the CEL came on. i was too lazy/tired to check the code but im pretty sure its the o2 sensor.

anyways, insurance for the car has now been put to weekend driving only, as im getting pissed off like crazy. seriously though, if i dont figure out wtf is wrong im selling it.

also the pulleys are prolly shot because they squeak pretty bad, making my car sound like an even bigger POS.

    discuss

yeah so bump for this poop. :x
  • Well, an exhaust leak could cause the awkward sounds...other than that. It honestly sounds like what my hatch was doing...are you SURE the engine is getting FUEL?

Also, it really does sound like a tuning problem...possibly a chipped ECU would help? so you could remap and reprogram when needed? then again...i'm use to turbo set ups...sooo, not sure if its the same for a supercharger..
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
yeah an exhaust leak is prolly that diesel sound..

however, im thinking its getting too MUCH fuel. like its flooding or something.

Are there no reputable performance shops around you?
  • Have you tried to call Jackson Racing tech and discuss what you have going on? Maybe they can give you a clearer picture on what their sub-harness does and some common problems with installation.

not that i know. the one guy i do know wont call me back
  • pardon my ignorance...but...what engine are you running?

i really do think this is a tuning issue...but i have a feeling this could come to a need for a separate fuel system....

No need to reinvent the wheel over a possible rich scenario.

    true
hopefully there is a simple fix, and not any real "wallet busting" issues here.
  • Give us some close up detail shots of the plumbing for your JRSC rising rate fuel pressure regulator (the big regulator that looks like a UFO). I suspect that this might be the root of your problems. There is also a chance that the regulator is faulty, or maybe someone has messed with the adjustment on the top if it, making it feed too much/too little fuel. You're running a D15, right?
  • uhmm..Dizzle...

xXxdiesel sound is more likely valves...

i'll running a stock D15B2 with an A6 MPFI swap.

i'll try to get pics of the FMU later today. thanks Jaker!

    and everyone else haha.

ok so i put my car back to STOCK.

LO AND BEHOLD she still runs shitty. OMGWTFBBQ!!!! here is whats wrong, it straight up lacks huge power.

also my intake is making a loud ass fricking sound, like a french horn. straight up. super loud. so i pull off the VC breather pipe that goes into the intake pipe, and there is white smoke coming out of it. when i pulled it out of the intake pipe the loud Horn sound went away. but the car lacks power.

so, is my PVC valve bad or what? this is just too efking weird. prolly why my JRSC wasnt running right either

I reckon you've burnt something like the guys were telling you. Like a valve.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
well i replaced the valve. same thing.

i guess imma pull the cat next.

    DAMN
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
took the cat off... made the car even worse. fml

Time to do a compression check. I hope for your sake I'm wrong, but my gut tells me there's some internal engine damage.

    time for that ZC.....

CEL came on for a code 4 (crank angle sensor) but is now gone...
the car sorta sounds like an OHV engine at the exhaust side :|
  • ... shoot it down mang...

    its suffering

    : )
  • My vote, as I said back on page one of the other thread, is that running that boost with ignition timing retarded all the way definitely = hot exhaust. Not only is there a possibility you fried up the cat but an exhaust valve (what I think Haydz was referring to, NOT the PCV valve) as well.

The smoke is normal to a very small extent (as is some blow-by) but if there is a lot of smoke coming out then you probably have a lot of blow-by (or an exhaust valve gone BB) coming up and venting through whatever passage available - your breather. Ticking sound is the sound of muffled combustion, perhaps removing the breather eliminates that direct link to your combustion chamber that has a piece of its exhaust valve burnt away. :(

DOHC ZC w/test pipe FTW.

If you need a head or a valve or something I can bring 'em next weekend- I know that's a little late. Just let me know if I can help.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
damn. well, i took off the cat... looks prefectly fine. not really sure what im looking for lol but yeah, i can see through it, the interior structure isnt melted or anything. also the car ran just as shitty with it.

sooooo i guess next step would be.. take off the head?! jebus..

bam-bam, if you have an extra head laying around, i guess bring it. that would be awesome. i'm going to wait with taking off the head though. i need to be able to at least putt-putt my way to the HCW meet this Sunday
  • bam-bambam-bam Council Member
COMPRESSION TEST. you can see what's going on in there without removing the head.
  • wagodizzlewagodizzle Council Member and EDM expert
mkay. we'll, imma get on that then.

Yeah, if everything else looks right, compression could be the issue. Like my gf's bike (86 Suzuki Savage) - had spark, air, fuel, everything and still wouldn't run. Finally tested compression - 40. As in, 40psi. Well THERE'S the problem! So it's at a buddy's house for the winter to be rebuilt.

Low compression in one or more cylinders would be more evidence supporting the burnt exhaust valve theory. So it's a way you can check without tearing your engine apart.

Too bad your on the other coast. I would say bring that bad wagon by and we can tune it for you.

yeah it really is starting to seem like it.

right now i have a fever of sorts, so im stuck at home in my pajamas all groggy.. prolly wont be able to check out the wagon till wednesday

did i mention its finals week coming up? oh yeaaaaaah 8)
