Parking lot fun

My gf wanted me to get a feel for how her Highlander on its new snow tires feels in the slippery stuff. It's frickin BORING! The tires grip great, and every time I want to pitch it around a little, all the electronic nannys bring the thing to a stop.

After the drive, I wanted to go have some fun. So I grabbed my wagon, my camera, and did this:

I feel MUCH better now.

It's tough to get the gf out there to shoot video and corral her 4yo at the same time. :( I did the best I could to try and stay in the shot!

I also shot a little bit with my windshield suction cup mount, but from that view you don't really get the sense of drifting the way you do with an exterior shot. If I stuck the cam to the side of the car it probably would've gotten ruined by blowing snow.
  • Nice man, I do mine through the neiborhoods lol
  • Sweetness :D

I also shot a little bit with my windshield suction cup mount,

I had a roll-cage mount for about a month. Before I lent it to the wrong friend

Paying for a nice mount is worth it IMHO... problem is my camera got jacked about a year ago :(

Get what you can, when ya can. Anything is fun!
  • good stuff, looks like a blast! if it wasn't for our wagon, honda wouldnt have had the test bed for all the new lines of suv (that was not a isuzu, that was an insult of a honda(aka passport)) honda suv's have drivetrain that was originated from the 4th gen awd, and now the technology from the SH prelude's. now if we get a new wagon sometime in the near future, hmmm, a RTawd with the drivetrain from the RDX + the turbo, oh man is honda listening? :D
  • I was just waiting for you to take out the camera. Oh, and loved the A-Team tunes!

I know exactly what you mean about the Highlander's granny control. My 'other car' is a Hybrid Camry and it's got the same crap...right when it starts to slip, it just gulps and cuts the gas. Couldn't have any fun if I wanted to.

Thanks man! I chaired an autocross last year - called the A-Cross. I was going to add some stripes to my wagon just for the event, just like the A-Team van, but I'd just moved and couldn't find the roll of vinyl striping.

The worst thing about the granny control is you can't turn it off! Best you can do is go into "Snow ECT," which allows just a little bit of slippage but not much. There are reasons why when Audi first introduced ABS in the 80s, they put a switch on the dashboard to turn it off. They knew that under certain adverse conditions a bit of sliding is actually better. I live on a steep hill, and a couple of times in snow the Highlander's ABS has caused me to miss the driveway!
  • hah. It just pisses me off that these days with all the technologies that go into keeping us safe, it's more like they're driving us than the other way around.
