car is now whistling

so i adjusted my idle a bit, turned the screw only 90 degrees, and my intake now straight up whistles. LOUD. literally sounds like a bird is in the car hahaha. but its only when i tap the gas a certain bit and of course when i accelerate. its kinda funny in a way (i can drive by girls and tap the gas, voila... gets their attention hehe), and i find it amusing, but my question is, is this a sign that something is bad under hood by any chance?? or is this bad for the car..?

i only adjusted the idle because i changed my throttle cable for an Si one (i havent done that since my MPFI swap) and it put it ever so slightly off. anywho... oh and btw i have a cold air intake.

  • Mine does the same thing with the short ram intake, I think its just the nature of the beast. Have had the whistle noise with all my Civics that i have put an intake on. Some louder than others.

    lolz thats good.
  • Idle screw is too far out... read your manual on how to set your idle correctly.

or Unplug IACV when car is at operating temp and running, adjust screw until you can estimate the RPM to be +-750 (make sure you do this with your lights on our your heater at full blast), plug IACV back in with car completely off, remove the Hazard fuse from the engine compartment fuse box for 10 secs or so to reset the ECU. Restart car and enjoy! 8)

my idles at 750 +/- already...

i know this sounds stupid, but is it bad that the screw is too far out?

(i kinda like this new sound  ) damn kids..
  • Yeah it will mess with throttle response

ok so i did as you posted.
whenever i would unplug the EACV the car would instantly die. so i did everything without that, so basically i did nothing haha. the screw is almost on the max tighten setting, as any other way the idle is too high. its like a 1/4 turn (90 degrees) from being the tightest.

anyways, still whistles  runs great, idles great...etc ;)

    thanks for the tips though!
  • Well if it works.....
  • My buddy just fixed the whistle on his '95, turned out to be the throttle body gasget. He spent a lot of time going through all the vacuum lines and such before he found it.

the whistling sound i have comes directly from the filter, so i doubt its that (plus its a new gasket lol) thanks for looking out though! ;)

what you could be hearing is an echo.

I had the same problem 5-6 years ago, I had alot of carbon buildup behind the butterfly on my throttle body. It would slightly stick and cause a tweet or whistle, I noticed the buildup after running a short-ram for a year or so. I removed it and cleaned it all up, peek in there and let us know.
