Show me your exhaust..

what are you people using for exhaust?

there aren't many exhausts we can use unless we want to change where the pipe comes out at..our pipe currently comes out on the left, which is where the indicator is on our rear bumpers..but i've seen a few who have installed somethin like this where it comes straight out..to the right side.

  • yah that's pretty unique..i saw it when you posted it on the other board..it reminded me of the mini cooper s model exhaust..

are you getting any performance benefit to it?
  • damfino. it's freaking loud, though.

Bosal Brospeed header, empty converter shell, 2.25" pipe straight back through a 31" Dynomax Magnum glasspack, into the Ractive MT320S "muffler."

shine a light in one end, it shines out the other. i've never had the car on a dyno, but i know it's quicker/faster than a stock DX hatch fwiw.

heres mine, its an ebay muffler & custom piping. One day when I have the car up on a lift I'll shoot some pics off its underside.
  • Frank,
your muffler's freaking low! as in low to the ground..i bet you scrape the bottom of that thing going through parking lots.

-btw, does anyone know how infinity is able to get that barrelled sound coming from their exhaust? i hear it from the g35, nissan Z's, and the fx SUV models..it sounds like a distinctive hollow barrel.
  • akiraboyakiraboy HondaCivicWagon.com Founder
I know exactly what you're talkin bout, that G35 sound is killer...
I should ask one of the guys @ work cause his dad owns one.

As far as scrapin, not once. Even backing up to curbs or parking stoppers. I know it looks low but honestly it doesn't scrape.

You can always cut the tip off & put in a 90 deg. pipe(& extension) & reattach the tip (or change to another tip).

When I found out that I couldnt even fit 2 fingers into the exhaust, i decided to leave it on because its so funny looking. Its cut off right before the turn into the muffler.

    I'm running open DP.

stock started to develop a nice rusty hole...so i got it replaced with this

  • Duckie, What muffler is that.
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
umm...i believe a Dynomax muffler with Magnaflow tip

it sits really low tho. when i can, i'll snap some pics from behind. you can practically see the whole thing, well it's wierd. my buddy pointed that out while driving behind me. it's all exposed
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
Yeah but the stock mufflers do that too.. Maybe get a shop to move it closer up?
  • If I got a muffler designed to run with the length of the car, could I still mount it on the left side? Or better yet has someone done this already?Pix?
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
yeah, but it seems with this one it hangs a lot lower. my dad told the guy that too, but the shop guy said he couldnt move it up anymore.

i snapped some pics while it was up on jacks during the suspension project. you can see all the piping in this pic

why dont you guys run the muffler out the driver side insted of making all them bends. what im trying to say if you get under the car and look you will c that the stock exhust dose a 90 over to pass side 90 and over the lower C arm 1 more 90 muffler and 1 more 90. what i did is just make the pipe turn to the driver side and then stright out the back..
  • duckie8310duckie8310 Senior Wagonist
the type of exhaust i have wouldnt work too great like that. if you have the fart-can style, yeah it would be more practical, but not in my case.

making the piping that straight would pretty much make me heard from all around, but im not in to the neighbors knowing im on the way home at night. it would be wayy too loud for my liking. all the turns isnt just to snake around under, but to reduce the noise too.

plus, i want a more low profile look. im not the type to draw un-wanted attention to myself. i already drive a car that people say is a piece of crap...if i do ricer-type stuff to it...that just more mes-stlak i have to hear from people. thats why i wanted it to look more stock than anything.

That's a good point. Why did Honda do it that way :?: The only difference would be it'll exit on the right side. The way you said would be better performing & lighter.

Say Duckie8310.You must be a Circle tracker with those weight jacking shocks.

 Look at the pic of your wagon.OEM shx on the left rear & Tokico coilovers on the right rear. The left side of your wgn would be 2"(50mm) higher than the right driving down the street.

oh yeah that didnt make sense to me at first. that was half way thru my shocks/coilovers going on. i just wnated to snap a pic because at the time, someone was asking about the exhaust, so i wanted to snap a couple of pics.

i've still yet to take pics of the whole wagon....maybe this week. im looking for rims tho...

dont have any pictures handy yet.
i am currently running a magnaflow cat., 2 1/2 inch mandrel bent pipe, and a cherry bomb turbo muffler. did the whole set up for $160. doesnt sound like a bumble bee either. it sounds similar to a gs oval muffler, found on alot of Teg's. looks stock, which is nice to keep away bored police officers.

v6's are known for that. exhaust sound has a lot more to do with your engine that the pipes that come from it.
  • I made this out of basically garbage. I think the muffler is from a Saab. Actually a pre-muffler or something like that. Straight-through perforated core. Sounds great, not loud at all, really cheap and flows pretty good too. Everything forward of the muffler is factory Honda. Yes, it's touching the bumper cover. I have since cut a notch for it. It still touches the cover, but I don't care.

  • Here is mine, pardon the blue tape, I was painting on the car when I got it installed. It's a Magnaflow 5"x8" oval, sounds great. I was going to do header, cat, resonator, with a 2.25" pipeing all the way out but I decided that this D series is going to be slow unless I do something major, so i just save my money.
