  • they make a carbon fiber vinyl.
i've seen it in person. you can't tell the difference.
one of the shops i deal with did their tundra. they said it's like the clear bra that they install on front of cars.

Are you serious? You must need your eyes checked. The CF vinyl looks nothing like real CF, doesn't even feel the same. I was at sema last year and yeah every car had it. Go real or GTFO

Hey Jaker or Mr M3, How much clearance do you guys have between the reinforcement and you're valve cover??

The only reason I ask is to see if the ZC valve cover and timming belt cover will fit fairly well.
Mine hits on the driver's front corner but I assume that is from the H22 not the hood.

The vinyl wrap was actually pretty impressive to me. I've seen some that were laughable but the Wraptivo was really pretty good. Obviously there is no weight savings but for people interested in looks then it seems like a good product. But really there are so many better ways to save weight than buying a $700 hood. Here's the link to the brand I am talking about.

    Don't do it!

    Vinyl is for advertising!

It might look good, but everyone is secretly laughing at you (some not secretly). If you can't afford a carbon fiber hood, don't waste your money trying to get the look. Then people are reminded of how broke you are lol

It's not fake though. It's functional.

Now if you put an amber sticker on, that's different.

The funny thing about Wraptivo is its more expensive than real carbon fiber. I've been communicating with the Wraptivo marketing manager from Meguiars and he sent me out some sample sheets. We were thinking about using the flat black or flat white wrap for the surface of FRP racing seats to use instead of gel coat. Once I found out the price for a 48" x 60" sheet I changed my mind. $130

    I'm impressed with the quality, it's a 3M product.

cmerce, wanna sell your hood tool? :)

When you're ready to start producing again, let me know and we'll get you back in the vendor section
  • unlimited02unlimited02 Senior Wagonist

Sounds good, it's a little too cold right now to do much composites work, but not for much longer.

    I don't know about selling the tool :!: :!: :!:

Still waiting on mine, (fingers crossed)
  • cmercecmerce New Wagonist
lafwagons getting the carbon fiber hood frame treatment!! Super stiff frame!
  • my question is how well does it sand down for paint? or what would the price be with the top layer fiberglass instead of CF?
  • danzdanz Wagonist
i dont think u would be sanding down that far. you should just be blocking the resin down flat.
  • JakerJaker familEE
If all you're doing is prepping for paint, all you should be doing is a light sand to scuff the surface, and a couple shots of primer with sanding and then paint. The clear is plenty thick for a scuff. You don't have to worry there. cmerce would probably make you a totally fiberglass hood, and it would still be quite light. I don't know how much cheaper it'd be though, as there's plenty of labor involved.
  • sweet, so it's not textured on the top? i am going to have to buy one after i get all my mechanical stuff worked out.
