civic wagon power mirrors?

okay, I've searched the site as best I can to find anything re: OEM power mirrors for wagons.

and I haven't done the homework on calling a Honda dealer yet as it's Sunday, but was there a factory power mirror for any 80s - 90s wagon/wagovan available?

I spent a good hour or two completely and totally disassembling a RH mirror assembly. it seems that after counting 22 total parts not incl. screws and other fasteners that there should be a way to pretty much plug-and-play power mirror guts from a similar year Civic mirror assembly into our wagon specific mounting housing.

I haven't tried any of this as yet but lemme see a show of hands who'd be interested in this if I can get it to work reliably and efficiently.

and would you rather buy them ready to bolt on or do you wanna custom fab them yourself with a write-up?

...jm.

Power mirror wasn't available on usdm wgn,but came on1 of the 92-96 wgns in other countries.

DIY article would be great :D
Plug N Play power mirrors are probably hard to come by.

    Just speculating...

Swapping the guts from a power mirror set into a wagon housing shell should be feasible.
The best bet for usdm power mirrors would be from a 90-91 EX Sedan
Barring that's actually an item in existence, a JDM or EDM power mirror set would be needed. They're on Ebay all the time.

The guts from a 92+ might even be feasible, but I just don't know.

you might be able to use the guts from an 89 accord or a 89 special edition integra that might work b-cuz the 85-89 1st gen teg had a rare power mirror and the accord power mirror guts and glass and guts fit in that b-cuz im also building an AV1 1st gen integra sx-16 for my father in-law

They exist. My gf has a 90 EX w/pwr mirrors. Rare as hell, but they do exist.

How bout this one. Power folding mirrors. Thats what I wanna get my hands on. Dont really know why either. I just like the folding part I guess.

:? B careful I heard that the JDM mirrors only fold on 1 side. The right side .

^^^ All the Skylines we have both mirrors fold in. Same with the Silvia we had. Not sure on the Hondas though, but Im pretty sure they both fold in.

I recently got all the power options out of a 90CivicLX To swap into my 90Wagon2WD.
I played around with the guts of both driver side mirrors and was able to come up with a workable solution.
In the end I had to connect the outside part of the LX assembly to the inside portion of the Wagon assembly. I removed the manual adjusting arm from the guts of the Wagon assembly and reused the folding mechanism because it mounts to the other half of the mirror housing with the screws lined up. This sacrifices some strength to the connection with the outside half but I fugure that if it didn't come off while trying to reconnect the springs then its probably going to be OK.

The filal product has a slightly larger gap between the two halfs but I think that could be from me spending half a day trying to connect the springs! I might try using shorter springs.
I think it can be done without dissassembling the LX half of the assembly but I didn't know how to remove the mirror itself without damaging anything so I ended up just slowly removing screws 'til I had no choice but to dismantle the whole thing so it could be rebuilt properly.

    Bottom line is it worked!

If passenger side still has a gap without me stretching the springs the a skirt might have to be made --the gap is quite small, like 1/8", I'm just worried about water getting in-- or maybe shorter springs or filing of the folding mechanism.

As for using the original wagon outside half of the housing, it looked like too much work to me. The screw holes for attaching the power mirror mounting plate to the housing don't line up at all and the motor housing doesn't line up with the Wagon mounting plate either. I'm sure you could make it attach but I figured I'd try the other way first and it worked so I'm gonna go with this configuration for now.

I couldn't find any honda specific info on removing the glass but it actualy just pops out of the frame if you push back on the edge with your thumbs while pushint in gently from the underside.

Hope this is usefull to someone. Any other ideas/info would be appreciated as well.

    Thanks,

    Nice info. :D

88-91 JDM Shuttles came with power mirrors and 92-96 came with power folding mirrors, both sides.

there is a small screw, jewelers phillips, directly above and up inside the drain hole on the bottom of the mirrors. unscrew this about 5 full turns. you can fully remove it if you're totally rebuilding the mirrors but don't lose it! this is a plastic ball joint assembly that holds the mirror on a metal ball and still lets the whole thing be adjusted by the arm.

on reassembly, just barely start the screw in the threads and pop on the ball, then tighten the screw once you've reassembled everything else.

I saw that in the schematics for the power mirrors but could not find it anywhere. All the screws I found were perpendicular to the drain hole. It really made things difficult because I was afraid to break my only working power mirror assembly.

  • huh, interesting that it's shown in the schematics, though.
admittedly, I haven't gotten into the power mirror assembly yet, just going by what I found in the manual jobbies.
