D15B vtec Motor, Need info for swap. (renamed)

Update I Renamed the subject, So as of now i'm trying to get all the info on doing a swap. So that i'm not in the middle of doing it and then wondering whats next.

This swap is for my brown FWD wagon. I im hoping that i can reuse the tranns and if possible the flywheel.

Well i got some $$$ save up an am now looking at a d15b Vtec.
So... Where can one find a reliable place or website where I can get my hands on a complete motor? (ecu, wire harness, tranny, motor, driveshaft’s, ect)

max budget $850

Thus all i have to do is pull the old, in with the new. And im off.
I hope it goes like that. :?

I have looked on ebay but haven’t seen anything yet.

Any Ideas?

your budget is a little low.
    http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc200 ... item=30021
there sold out right now but you can call them and see when the next shipment will be in.
  • tigerjapanese.com been dealing with then for some time now very resonable, i deal with soko/soshin for 10 years but somting happend to them they closed down the soko chicago location, and i orderd from soshin in cali, and got 2 smoking d15b vtec's not cool, :x had great success with tiger, they in canada and it takes 3-4 days to get to you.
check them out online catalog is nice.
  • Yeah it a tight budget but that about all i can spare on it.
I trying to get my folks to cough up an extra 300

I really just need the motor. Slap a clutch on it and reuse the stock trans since there nothing wrong with it hell it shift like butter.

Just double checking the D15B V-tec will bolt up to the stock transmission right?

Anyhoo umm so if i do the math

    $450 +/- for the motor about 150 -200 shipping
    $80-140 for a clutch
    $80 timing belt,
$80 give or take for and ECU and wire harness.
    (What ECU's are compatible?)
Mayby a valve cover gasket, umm spark plugs.

Since im going to use the stock trans i can just the the stock CV axels?

anything else i should include in the list? :?

i guess i dont really know what you have done or what your replacing
    new clutch for shure
timing belt for shure i payed $45 for a gates belt dont b fooled that you got to go to honda for that one gates is so good that honda uses them now to make the oem belt look close it will say gates somewhere.
    water pump
if you are dpfi on a budget keep it that way and use a new intake gasket
    spark plugs are wise
    rear main seal is wise
crank and cam seal is wise but not nessesity/ you wont have to take the motor from the trans to change those
you can always use your cv axles on d-series swaps unless you go with a dohc zc trans
if you have awd you cant use this motor there is no mount holes for the inter shaft, but its likely you might be able to use the long shaft dont know
i did this for the zc trans once using the inboard joint from 86-93 teg and the rod and outboard shaft
do some shopping before you buy parts and when you go to honda try some different dealers they dont all have the same price

if your not mpfi dont buy a harness make one i'll post up a how to for it
ecu for mpfi can be many depends on what you want to do, you will have to buy a distributor in any case for mpfi convertions so it depends on if you stay obd0 or go obd1 for the ecu and dizzy, also obd0 takes obdo injectors and resistor box, i dont use either for obd0 i just use the obd1 injectors and eleminate the box, worked just fine for many years now but most likely someone will chime in on how this wont work.

you should be able to do this for the budget you have with cash to spare. cant wait to see what you come up with 8)
  • soken-skn on ebay. I have dealt with them in person. I got a great D15B that I use in my daily driver.

$450 sounds low for the motor. You'll probably spend closer to $600 then another couple hundred for shipping.

Don't bother with timing belt, clutch, water pump etc. You'll easily spend more than you will on the engine itself. What's the point of buying a JDM engine? Every time I've looked at this stuff on a JDM motor it's been in great shape. Just do plugs, rotor, wires, etc. Most of this stuff hopefully you can swap over from your current motor if you keep on top of your maintenance. A year from now you'll have money again to do the extensive maintenance.

yes i know, even if we had this motor usdm a good low milage d-series with warranty will cost 700-1200 they stick you good for usdm motors!
but really the jdm motors are the way to go 250-450 is all ive ever paid even for dohc zc and bump it up 100 for shipping still a bargen here, funny when soko was still in chicago there was no shipping they where around 8 miles from my house. before that i orderd from them for 10 years when i lived in florida. becoming good friends with one of the guys there, the inside scupe was they get these motors for like 75 to 100 bucks!!! wtf!! he would offer me a great deal though back in the day, 175 for dohc zc's wow but theres always a catch... i had to order 5 of them to get this deal plus had to pay the shipping for each. still a good deal but ive never been made of money. :(

Last one I got from Soken was 250 bucks with ecu....but that was a while ago...and I worked at a shop, lol.
  • Im considering this swap on mine, could probably do it for around $300-$400.

D15B Vtecs are basically throw away items here, a B16a could be had for around $150-250
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
LOL shush we might get invaded. :P
  • It would be nice to have a B16 but sice the d15 bolts up im going for that.

I have a nother qustion. The motor im looking at come with no trans,

So could i reuse the d15b2 flywheel? Does it Pop on?
Then all i have to do i get a stock clutch.

Or Does the D15B Vtec need the Flywheel spacificly made for it?

AND OR to avoid this hassel all together and get a motor with trany?

Also what ECU & Wireharness should i be looking?
Unless someone got one laying around?
  • curtcurt Wagonist
the d15b vtec tranny would be hydro so you would have to get the cable to hydro conversion kit so thats more $.
i would look around and get a crx si tranny. better gearing

you have to do the dpfi to mpfi conversion decide if your staying obd0 or going obd1. ecu depends on what obd you going.

  • Well i was just hoping to buy the motor and it should bolt on the a fwd d15b2 trans Right?

And also i should be able to reuse the Stock flywheel?
Will it connect to the Vtec motor? :?

Umm also since the motor come with a mpfi i don't have to worry about doing a swap.

Now i just need to find a p08 ecu and wire harness for it buy the motor.
Install the D15B2(stock motor's) Flywheel amusing that it fits, Buy a stock clutch attach the D15b2 fwd transmission, and drop it in.
Wire it up and i good to go. 8)

    Does that sound logical?

your engine and chaise harness are dpfi so you have to convert it to mpfi/obd1. you can't just throw on the d15b vtec engine harness and connect it to your chaise harness.

    Oh OK, I see.
So where can i go to get the info to do a conversion?
I take it that ill be doing some custom wiring.

i just did a whole write up with diagram. its tagged dpfi to mpfi like 6 or 8 posts down from this one. i will update it for vtec, then for obd1 convertion.
