"catalytic converter shroud"?

Hi Hondafriends,
Bluebell has a new problem, as of last night. There is a lot of construction at the border and it's very rough riding. I guess it just got to be too much. Anyway part of the catalytic converter assembly (?) basically fell partway off, it's about 1-1/2 feet long and shaped sort of like a beetle's shell? (Wow I'm a parts whiz or what, ha ha, actually I'm a bit of an ignoramus.) The car was stuck  and I didn't know what was wrong, so I called for a tow.
The tow guy said what fell off was the "catalytic converter shroud" but I've found zero references to any such part, so I'm just asking my expert-level Wagoneeros to help me know (a) what to call the thing when I take it to get fixed and (b) whether that part can be bought anymore -- tow guy took mine away with him, I guess I was too fried to ask him to leave it w/me (it was 2 in the morning & I'd had a long night of classes, studying and election watching from the other side of the border).
Anyway, Bluebell is driving fine. Tow guy said the part that fell off was not necessary because it's just meant to keep the catalytic converter from sparking a brushfire or whatnot. Do I need to replace it? Can I drive 60 miles away and back without it? (I have to go back to school again today. Living in one country and going to school in another has got to be the best way ever to add to your carbon footprint!)
Many thanks,
Jenny

Hi Jenny!!
Sorry to hear a part fell off...
Luckily it is only a heat shield. If you don't plan on driving through tall dry grass (thereby increasing your chances of sparking a brush fire) then you are fine.
I removed the heat shield from my cat a couple years ago because it was getting loose and vibrating so, no, you don't need to replace it.
Cheers !!
Thanks for the reassurance. Actually I did notice that my ride was a heck of a lot quieter on the way home.
Cheers
Jennifer
