I say bypass the B16 and get an LS.
  • I agree with Lucskywalker - keep it carb'd, and try finding a JDM first-gen ZC DOHC with carbs.

Believe it or not there have been some poeple that have been extremely successful when it comes to carbs and Honda engines making ridiculous amountsof power. The world's quickest and fastest Honda N/A is actuall a SOHC Accord F22 engine converted from fuel injection to carbs by Bisi Ezerioha/Bisimoto.

If Bisi makes any cams and/or carb set-ups and can also offer a head package/port then that would be bad-ass. I guess you could contact him:

Also wjile you're asking him Q's about the old school DOHC ZC you might even want to ask him if he's got anything for your stock 12 valver as he's a bigger fan of SOHC engines than DOHC engines.
  • So these older DOHC ZC's are pretty good huh? I know where one is rotting away in an old CRX. Maybe I should go yank it out
  • im trying to look for a motor that would run with the rest
  • im trying to look for a motor that would run with the rest

this motor will run with the rest, weber makes sidedraft kit for better flow, and olive tops are built to last. you have plenty of factory piston combos to choose from and the stock rods in this motor are the stongest of all d-series motors. good thing about carbs is they have a little better tq in the upper rpms. i would say you can run with the most, and with a little n2o carbs are very safe way to use the sneaky pete, but most likly you will like the way it is. 8)
  • wats the to hp on those
and wat car can i find those of of
    would it just bolt on
  • Built D16A6. High compression pistons, good cam, good engine management. It's a great motor and people have got some pretty impressive power from it. More than you can get from any of the SOHC VTEC D-series.

My friend put a B16 in his EF wagon and it was a total nightmare. He never got the power steering working right. Not enough clearance. If you can drop a D in there w/out custom mounts, that's the way to go.

Most importantly are what tranny options you have. If you're stuck with a long geared tranny, then no matter what the motor is it's going to feel slow.
  • what about brand new stock motor either strocked or turboed

    isnt that motor pgm-fi
  • yes it is but if you dont want mpfi you can get any of the dohc zc carb set ups, they are simply a bolt on. these also can be 88-91 black top carbs as well. alot of people have bought the carb motor as a replacment block for their mpfi set ups and just tossed the carbs. again they are are out there for sale just have to look for them, its worth the look. again weber makes a kit so with your budget sounds like you can pull the weber kit off with cash to spare :D

You'd still need to sort out alot of wiring and a way to get a decent fuel supply (i.e. new fuel pump, possibly new fuel tank dependant on seals etc).

Its great that you wanna do the swap but after working on Hondas over 6 years now i still wouldn't want to do a swap into one (or a carbed EF for that matter). Too time consuming.

save another 1500 and get a k-series swap. Depending where you're at, your local import shop should be able to do it. If you're near Hayward,CA check on rywire.com. They do k-series swaps. That's where I'm doing my k24a2 with 06 si tranny swap.

Not if you already have 3k. IMO it's like this. If you have the money, you can do anything. For 3k, you can buy an D-series motor and then some, with let over money. But if you have already played the D-series motors, it comes to you like second nature. And that goes for B-series motors, EVERYONE has done them in civics, integras. K-series is still fairly new to the import scene. you spend about 4000 (and price is going down for these motors) at hmotorsonline for a USMD k20a2 complete change over+ 500-800 motor mounts + i think if it's need 500(I don't remember the price) for axle mounts. + installation, at the right shop 500+800 or D.I.Y for free. It may sound like a hassle, but I'm sure it would be well worth it. So 5300-6000, you're Wagon/Wagon would be the first to have a k-series motor where ever you're at. Skunk2's Dr. Charles is the first, with a k24. If that's too expensive, think of it this way. You'd be spending as much money on a stock k20a2 when you build a D or B series motor.
