That one should work just fine. Most cats as long as they dont have O2 sensors in the actual cat will work fine. Even those will work, youd just have to plug the bung.

  • alright thanks.
    i'm on it now..

when i took my old cat out i looked in there and it looked mighty clogged you couldn't see the light at the other end as compared to my new Catco.
i would recommend anyone with a wagon to change their cat.

they say cats are supposed to last the life of the car, but i say our 16yr old cars need a new cat.

Amen to that. Its been my experience that cats slowly clog, hindering performance and losing effectiveness as an emissions compliance tool.

I've replaced the cats on both the wagon and the CRX.
On anything over 10 years old, it should at least be checked.
If you can't see a fuzzy gray light coming from the other end, its time for a new one. Especially if you're already doing exhaust upgrades. It makes ZERO sense to put a high flow header and cat back exhaust on if the old cat is going to act like a bottleneck.

And here's my periodic green speech:
To the people considering a "test" or "cheater" pipe as a cat replacement...a properly performing cat typically loses less than 1 hp to an open pipe. The cat performs a job and while you can't immediately see it, without one, you are intentionally adding to the greenhouse gas problem. Sure, your cat-less beater is just a tiny drop in the bucket, but enough drops put together form rain. And I think we're already plenty wet.
Bush says theres no such thing as global warming...but I've lost track of the number of things that idiot has been wrong about.

heres a cat story: ok, so i am driving home in my car (1989 Civic Hatch) going about 85 mph and i gradully start hereing this hissing sound. it starts to get loude and louder and i notice smoke coming from the back of the car. i have no freaking idea wtf is going on. anyway, i make it to my exit and i check everything out under the hood and it looks ok. i start going home and my car slowly starts losing power. and the hissing sound is getting worse. after about 6 miles my car won't go faster then fucking 35 mph!!! i am really pissed and everything. at one point i had to stop, well, it took literally 8 minutes to accelerate to 35 mph. the engine just wouldn't rev beyond a certain rpm. finally made it home and the next day diagnosed the problem. plugged cat. son of a bitch. i was stuck driving my moms minivan for a couple days :x anyway, i'll get a picture up soon. so much for lasting the life of the vehicle. i guess they just didn't expect the car to last this long!!!

my engine check light did come one, and the interior of the cat BROKE INTO PIECES AND WAS FUCKING CLOGGED. like i mentioned. anyway, it cost me about $70 to fix it...did it myself. the retarded thing was fricking WELDED to the pipe, so i cut that mother off and clamped the new one one, then drilled through it and screwed it together. last step i filled in the gaps with JB Weld. it is till holding and there is a slight growl sound now, like a BMW  but yeah, change your cat NOW before something happans to you like it did me!!!

his check engine light went on today and he found out his cat was clogged up and going bad on him. we drove to a muffler shop asking for a quote..it was over $300+ and online was no better..they want $400..Kragen? they want $862.
why so much? because on his civic the exhaust manifold and cat are one piece and stuck together..you gotta get both.
he's thinking of removing it and doing a test pipe deal..but we live in CA and that's asking for more trouble. he's also thinking of relocating the cat to the bottom like our wagons, but he's no welder and that'll take more time and money..plus the guy at the muffler shop said it can't be done.

Those header mounted cats are some effed up shit.
What I'm thinking he could have done was go to a junkyard and buy a whole exhaust from one of the Civics that have a regular header, like the D16y8. I think all the D-series headers are interchangeable(bolt pattern). Then mixed and match components from both exhausts...doing any minor fabricating with the help of a muffler dhop. Most muffler shops won't touch CAT removal or alteration...but if they never saw where the original CAT was, they won't know what you're up to.
