yes, those were the days, i cant believe someone else read that or at least remembered it! i think it was a white 86 si hatch, they swaped in a olive top d16a1 motor, still to this day i wish i still had my 85 crx i swaped in a jdm zc, to me this car was the most fun to drive car iv ever owned!! the car was so dangerously light. i could pick the car up from the rear and move it over, just wish i could find one today they just have so much irreversable rust that there no good, even in florida! that block is so stong! if ya have the chance compare it to vtec b-series notice all the ribbing, honda didnt even do this to the ls motor! the y7-y8 block has a few extra ribs that the other d's dont have but since sohc's dont really make much power above 7g's its kinda just extra weight. but the dohc zc does like higher rpms, plus i think the olive top has a great trans, its most likly the stongest d trans there was! back in the day HKS had cams for the zc and also a turbo kit, i was able to get my hands on the cams but never the turbo kit. about three years ago i seen some of these cams on ebay but good luck if those pop up again

yea, i wouldnt say hate cause vtec is a marval that still cant be touched by the auto industry today and now theres i-vtec. i just dont LIKE the people usually making use of these motors they always talk alot of bs and seem to have an excuse for everything. i dont concider sohc vtec to be real vtec cause it only does the intake side of things. to me its for fuel economy. with low cam swirl and high cam power, normal driving you dont see much of this power, rev's just dont climb fast like the dohc vtec's if it wasnt for smog honda would have just put bigger cams in there to get the 128hp, they do it for the jdm sohc non vtec zc's yes they make those for anyone who has never heard of those. i got one by mistake back in the day by mistake! but the motor was a blast, seemed to have a better low end power band than the black top dohc. but then it didnt have that fake vtec power band that the dohc does!! hehe 5200rpm vrooomm i love zc's
and anyone out there in the atl area and have a d16y i wouldnt try that (honda only) shop, from what i hear they love to spin your bearings

We only work on Hondas and Acuras and there is not a single shop in the ATL that I can think of that works on exclusively Hondas and Acuras that has lasted for 5 years, much less 10.

86-89 teg pistons has a goofy round dome and almost no relief for the valves and is a no go for the y8 head as it will hit the head and as for any cams for these pistons they will bend valves, so long story short pistons of choice are dx,si,ex,vx,hx if you want 170hp and stock piston...

The 86-87 Integra piston is a slight domed piston with a +1.3cc dome, whilst the 88-89 piston has a larger +7.2cc dome, but hey you're the expert here, right? Well you can lump completely different pistons into the same catagory if you want to, but that just reaffirms my belief that you're just spewing bullshit from your keyboard.

170whp D15 on ITBS is easy even with nonVTEC head and Crane 251-0016 camshaft. 12:1 compression with FORGED pistons.
D16Y8 @ 12.5:1 compression, tuned by Honda will do 150 whp, I'm speaking of the original GX/Y8 motor as autox by HART.....I'm about to purchase it
