pedal assy. does crx/hatchback or sedan unit fit?

I'm gearing up for my Wagon's major transformation. It's of course going from auto to manual, so I need a pedal assy. I read this article...

http://www.gassavers.org/showthread.php?t=1033

which has some really good information about a/t-m/t conversion in an EF and this guy used a wagon pedal assy. in his EF sedan for whatever reason ( my guess is he just came across a convenient deal and figured it'd fit...)

Since the wagon unit fit his sedan, I'm speculating that a sedan unit would fit my wagon. There'd be a couple benefits to this. First off, the only junked wagon I have access to is at a redneck yard and they want $170 for it, or theres a junked sedan at my buddys house = free. Second benefit is the sedan has a shorter pedal distance from floor to engaged, and I have personally and heard of others having an issue with spot welds breaking/cracking on the wagons clutch pedal assy, obviously due to the pedal having more leverage on the structure. Me having a more firm than stock clutch in my previous wagon didn't do it any favors. I've also got a junk CRX in my garage that would be willing to donate if neccesary.

So, anyone know if they'll fit?

Yes... and no. It will bolt up, and you can probably make it work, but with the fulcrum of the sedan unit further from the firewall, i ran into interference from hvac ducts. Every time I pushed the pedal all the way it felt like a detent near the bottom- the cable hook end was shoving the duct around. I assume in ALASKA you want all your climate control stuff to work!

The other issue was the positioning of the clutch interlock switch- you would have to leave it off, if you care about such things. I ended up taking the sedan pedals back out and welding/reinforcing the broken ones.
  • I put a set of hatch pedals in mine with no problems. The previous owner had eliminated the clutch switch before I bought the car, so I couldn't tell you if that would be a problem or not.

ah ha... Thanks for the input guys. I'm not at all concerned with the hvac vents, I know in Alaska I should be more worried, but this car is strictly for summer anyways... And the clutch switch I can take care of. I have to have that functional to race @ the track but I can swing it. So CRX pedal assy. it is! Thanks guys.
