Rebuild axles?

Anyone here ever rebuilt a Honda axle?

I know this is sort of unrelated to wagons but I might use wagon axles so it is.

I picked up an DOHC ZC and Si trans for my CRX, went to put in the Si axles and they were lose. Did some researching and found out the guy sold me a ZC trans with no intermediate shaft.

I thought about using my Si trans I have but thought I would test out the ZC trans first if I can find a shaft. One thing I did try was putting one of my old recently replaced 4wd wagon axles in the passengers side of the ZC trans and it fit perfectly.

I really don't want to buy new axles for the CRX since I just bought new ones and they don't fit (will use them on my 89 sedan) but noticed that NAPA sells CV joint rebuild kits and the CV joint strap wrench. Has anyone rebuild an axle from one of these kits and how easy was it and was it worth it?

  • See if you can find one with new bearings in it.

Rebuilding the axle is pretty easy but with the cost of rebuilt these days I just usually go that route. Less mess
  • I've also looked for kits that include the bearings on all the sites but none of them do.
  • Since I last posted I've been using the ZC trans with my old 4WD wagon axles, they fit but seem to keep coming out and I don't think they are long enough. The guy who I bought the half shaft from also threw in the inner joints from some ZC axles. One thing I thought about doing was use the inner ZC joints and the wagon outer joint and buy a axle repair kit from Honda for $21 per side and make my own.

Would this work, how hard is it to rebuild an axle and would I need anything else?
