upgraded brake pads

what is the most aggressive brake pads that work with the stock brakes on the 1991 wagons. for the front and rear drums. i dont care about it eating up the rotors. just want them to grip on like a mofo. i have had experience with competition endless brake pads and brembo as well on another car but i dont know what else is good.

I've got a great article in a magazine for this. It might take me some time to find it so I hope you're not in a hurry. But Project Mu or Project u are an emerging name in the brake pad aftermarket, I would like to try a set of theirs out when the time comes. EBC is also a very well known brand, besides the two you have mentioned.

The two best that I've tried...
Porterfield R4-S..."s" is for street but they perform flawlessly. There is a more aggressive R4 compound.
Hawk HP+...Good all around. No glaring trade offs for excellent stopping power

    The most disappointing...
EBC Greenstuff. But that was 8+ years ago when they were new. I've heard that they've changed their compound.

yeah i heard green was a big disappointment.

i kinda think hawks is not aggressive enough. i think they are almost to where im looking to be at but i want more. i want the pads to really eat the rotors up. that is how aggressive im trying to get.

    DO NOT TOUCH EBC PADS.

I'm wartning you now, if you want the exact opposite to what the box says, buy EBC Greenstuff. :P

EBC rotors etc are fine but their pads suck ass. Less dust? Yeah right! Less fade? More like excess fade!!

Yucky! I am speaking from personal experience here..

Agreed! EBC = Junk. I used a set 3 years ago and hated them. Warped 2 sets of rotors on me. Ill never touch EBC anything again.

All the Hawk pads Ive used have performed flawlessly and dont eat up rotors. They dust a lot, but Id rather ahve dust than replace rotors every autox season.

Three tips I can offer to you for better braking that shouldn't be over looked.

    1. Check master cylinder, especially the seal to the brake booster and reservoir... replace if needed.
    2. Upgrade fluid! Bleed out that old crap and go with ATE or something similar.
    3. Improve cooling via custom ducts or more "ventable" wheels.

If you aren't satisfied after this... pads. Im running Akebono, very linear...

    Hell yes, thats good stuff!
  • Yes sir, I rarely encountered boiling on my 240sx with that fluid.. and let me tell you, that car has the shittiest brake cooling of all. The wagon does real well with it, even with the steelies on there ( you can cook an egg on the wheel after a serious run, however...) :D
