Hmm, interesting about the Redline. I'll be sure to NOT use it in our Hondas.

However, it SIGNIFICANTLY improves shifting in the Miata. ESPECIALLY in the cold. But a Miata is not a Honda, so you can't make a comparison.

Nothing new for the wagon recently. Though I'm pondering swapping my new/better speakers to the front, rather than the rear pods where they are now...

Redline masks the problem to start with but just ends up glasing everything.

Because I have done that about 4 times now, so now I have holes with rubber bungs in them. When it fills up I just pop the bung out, let it drain then put the bung back in.
Saves 1hour of sponging all the water out

Fix the taillight seals. The ones that go between the light unit and the body.

  • Fixed another hot wire. Cranked the voltage up a little to accomodate the cold snap.

On a slightly-related note, a Mac Mini was shipped for my birthday! That means I can start iPhone development as soon as it arrives. With luck, I'll make enough money to give the Wagon a little more love, more often.

After today's snowfall, I decided to engage the 4wd. Spent my lunch hour in the freezing cold trying to do so only to get frustrated after not being able to do so. Is ther an easier way to engage the 4wd other than coming down from the top through the tangle of hoses and cables?

I plan on giving her a thorough cleaning this weekend as she is filthy both inside and out.
  • My question is why have it disengaged? Won't save you any gas mileage. Mine has always been engaged.

I disengaged the 4wd back in the fall (or was it summer?) when the driver's side rear diff. mount rusted through. Once we fixed it (Macguyver style) I just never bothered to re-engage it. It's such a pain in the ass to do though. I wished there was an easier way, or it was a heck of a lot warmer outside so I could spend more time trying to get the damn lever engaged!
  • rock&rollin' back and forth on a flat surface
    tryin' to engage the lever
    could rock that billy

    Nice!!

Wagon love? Um, it's in my garage for a few days, out of the elements. :) Of course, it's because of the trans fluid leak... :( But while it's in there I also plan to tackle the flaky turn signal connection, and maybe touch up my rear quarter panels with a quick paint respray before inspection.

Washed and buffed some spots. Some nice polishing compound does wonders for 21 year old paint. Pressure washed my floor mats, cleaned the glass, painted the wiper arms, and painted the passenger side mirror for the other wagon I got in the mail today.

Just installed some fog lights, too. Lol All that's left is cutting the black panel by the dimmer switch to fit the on/off switch. :)

i gave it some new springs and now its nice and low :) tomorrow if there is time ill give it a bath
  • just to clarify on the REDLINE issue I'm having, I put in a 90W gear oil for manual transmissions. what we have in the Wagon/Shuttle is not really a conventional transmission, it is a trans-axle. yes, apples to hacksaws. there is a technical difference.

mother Honda recommends 5W oil for the transaxle so I'm trying a synth in that weight.

RE: arguments against using RL, to each their own. I've used it and had good luck. I highly recommend it for any on-street application in a differential or tranny (I've never tried it in a racing environment, but it WAS developed for that). just use the correct weight.

in my case, I happened to already have 6 quarts of manual tranny weight sitting in my shop so I figured what the heck... I learned.
  • Installed a lip on her, and did the washer trick for my rear camber. So sweet. I love my wagon.

Using the proper type and weight of fluid is crucial, I agree. For my Miata, I chose Redline MT-90 instead of the more popular MTL because the MT-90 is a 75w90, which is exactly what Mazda recommends. But yeah, to each their own. I like Redline. Some are diehard Motul fans. Others see no benefit from synth. What I do depends on my car and my driving. In my wagon, I'm just running regular Dexron III, which is what my manual calls for (DexII, actually, but III is an equivalent/upgrade/replacement).

Um, wagon love... Got the axle seal, so tomorrow I hopefully put it in. :)

I swapped out my old and broken stock suspension for some "new to me" stock suspension I pulled from the salvage yard a couple of weeks ago. I think I need to get new outer tie rods though. Maybe I'll get that kit from ebay that someone posted up in another thread. Also l gotta check my rear diff as I have a clunking coming from the driver's side rear. Only started to happen when I re-engaged my 4wd.

Cleaned her too the other day. Still gotta vacuum though, lots of crap on the floor. And I have to take out all the damn pennies and loose stuff as it makes the interior really loud as my car vibrates down the road.

Mr. Eagle Beagle - tell me more about your armrest please. Seeing the box on the passenger seat and the edge of the armrest in the pic makes me want one soooo bad.

Oh, but back to the thread - I painted the muffler and tailpipe so I wouldn't see the rusty spots anymore!
