B18a ??

Just wondering if there is anything different that it would take to put a B series into a 1991 Wago? I am new to this with the Wagon thing.

K Just wasn't sure since I didn't see to many people doing that swap.

Basically it's no different than swapping into any other 88-91 Civic chassis.

90-93 Integra Engine (or 94-01 engine and 90-93 tranny to keep it simple)
Custom engine mount kits (HASport comes to mind)
Custom shift linkage (again HASport comes to mind)
Matching intermediate shaft and axles from an Integra (90-93 preferred)
Custom a/c bracket if retaining A/C (HASport again)
Fun wiring if the wagon is a DX or Wagovan with the wonderful crap 2 injector system
    90-93 Integra radiator hoses
    90-93 Integra engine mount bracketry

Then there's the banging on the driver's side frame rail to make clearance for the alternator pulley, and cutting/folding the rear crossmember to allow proper fitment of the rear custom billet mount

It's fairly straightforward, but like other 88-91 EF swaps is more complicated than your run of the mill 92-95 Civic swap.

I love the B18B in my wagon. It's not going to be the dragstrip killer, but for my daily driver it's perfect. I can leave it in 5th gear, a/c on, and pull just fine up steeper hills - something the stock D15 won't do.

Thanks for the info man I was just trying to find it all out I just purchased a 91 Wagon fwd with the 1.5 in it and it's going to be my winter project and I wanted to do a swap. I have many friends who have done motor swaps in Honda's just never in a Wagon so just had to check on it.

You cant do this B-Series swap on a 4wd wagon unless you swap the tranny/whole drivetrain with a 1st gen CRV's.
  • Hey NJ he has a FWD/2WD with the 1.5 in it.

Also Why does the B18A suck Kahuna? I know it's got less hp than the B18B, but it's still much better than the stock 1.5L mill, and I'd actually prefer a 1.8L non-VTEC in a wagon over a B16A or so due to the weight of a wagon and the torque advantage of the B18A/B.

    Agreed!

I am a total believer in the LS motors. Those things can take a beating for years and years on end. I tried to ruin my 91 LS motor for 8 autox seasons wanting to swap in a gsr motor. Countless autox/lapping days bangin off the rev limiter. The first time Ive ever pulled a running motor out of a car, lol.

Ya I am def. doing this swap a buddy of mine is very experienced in doing b swaps and building b series motors. I got the car for 500 bucks with 120,000 miles on it just a little rust above the passenger rear wheel which is normal for the year, ac and everything still works. I just plan on painting it and redoing the interior and a motor swap, mainly with a little other minor things done.

Oh Ok. He has a FWD. I tell you I love my LS motor. You cant ask for anything better for the price too. My JDM B18B motor cost me only $750 compared to buying any other Bseries Vtec motor. Not that I wouldnt do a B18C5 in my wagon but the torque and reliablility of an LS motor is priceless. Just my 2.

Same power as a B16A, more torque, if i remember rightly. Good motor. :D

    What mount kit?

I can't see any way possible that the alternator pulley will clear that driver's side framerail without banging it in some.

I've never done a B swap into an ED/EF/EE chassis without having to make room for the alternator pulley.

Our shop has probably done 20+ B swaps into 88-91 Civics/CR-Xs.

What if you used the smaller D-series alternater?
  • KadehooverKadehoover New Wagonist
So where is the best place to get a motor these days besides the junkyard? I know H motors has them but a little pricey for what want to spend right now.

That could work since it's three rib, but why use a D alternator?

Lol, I dunno. Maybe if you didnt have a hammer to bash in the framerail? I was just trying to figure out how the other member got a b-swap in a ef chassis without the framerail bashing.

I have the A1 in my Wago --- I'm wanting to add A/C tho. I got a CEL from the 02 sensor (4 wire) that I have to sort out.

Would a B18C5 fit in the same way (sorry to interject but I didn't want to make a new topic)
  • KadehooverKadehoover New Wagonist
Yup the b18c5 is just a JDM vtech version I believe. engine and tranny are all the same size just cost A LOT more.
  • HaydzHaydz Moderator
B18C5 is a USDM VTEC motor.
  • That actually brings up another question, when I see the b18c swaps on ebay and other sites, which ones are they selling usually, cause they're usually advertised as having 200hp
  • I would think if they are saying B18C5 at 200hp then it would be the USDM Typer R Integ.
