Auto Tranny Question

Just bought a Wagon down here in Arizona for 1600$ with a extra set of SI's. It has 200k on the body and tranny with a new D15 engine. I got to drive it for a night before I went on vacation.

From what I saw, the tranny shifted pretty hard. This is my first auto car(an old one at that) so i'm not too shure if thats normal? It did slip when I tried to accelerate on the off ramp from the highway.

So thats the question. Is my Wagon with 200k miles on the tranny going out or is that normal? If so, how hard is it to replace an Auto Tranny? I'll probally have more questions when I get back(2 weeks) but thats all I could think of for now.

Thanks.

  • I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but Honda auto trannys are lacking to say the least. Thats not to say your tranny is bad, it does have high miles but you might want to look into doing a tranny flush with GENUINE HONDA tranny fluid and then go from there.

Eh, im not looking for an amazing tranny thats gonna give me special powers or anything. I bought this car as a Daily. I just wanna make shure that its going to get me where I need to go.

How exactly would I know if my tranny is starting to go?

First off, make sure the fluid is topped off. If it's low, it may shift hard or sometimes not at all. My car has 165k miles - don't know if it's the original trans, but it does consume a little fluid. Keep that topped off and that's your best bet.

Your prob could be improper oil level.Honda uses a different way of checking oil.
