(no longer)need engine pulling advice. thanks

i'm in the process of pulling the engine out of my 88 and got stuck at the AC. the manual says "WARNING!! HIGH PRESSURE!!! take to a pro to discharge".

well. it's much too late for that. this vehicle isn't moving (unless we have another earthquake).

does anyone know of how to discharge the ac safely? is there some kind of valve or bolt where i can safely release the pressure?, or do i have to get a reeeeeealy long wrench and hope for the best?

also, do i have to remove the compressor, or can i just leave it on when i lift the engine?

thanks.

other then environmentally safe, the only thing that will happen is that there will be just some freon hissing out of the connection you open up.

it will come out for a few seconds then you can just remove the a/c unit or lines.

there are o rings in there that can come out so dont lose those.

There is also a shrader valve on the system (used for filing the system). You could unscrew the cap, and press down the valve to discharge the system. It's a valve like on a tire, and usually under a blue or green plastic cap.

 STOP!!!Engine can be removed w/o discharging the AC.Honda manual says unbolt compressor & hang it on the front beam(basically hang it out of the way).

:!: :!: 3 other reasons for not discharging the AC:
    1)Bad for Ozone.
2)To recharge with Freon is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$(Freon's colder than that R134).
3)You need to replace the Drier if not recharged within 3-5 days(Not sure about the time frame).(You can have one of those mobile AC guys discharge the Freon ,then later come back & recharge it.You might have to replace the drier too).
