what suspension for a 91 civic wagon

I just bought a wagon and i would like to drop it and improve the ride. I will not track or autocross it so it doesn't need to be the best. My price range is $200-$900. Let me know what you think. THanks!

  • KYB GR-2's will set you back bout 100 a corner, and are a good replacement for stock struts. Tokico and Koni adjustables range from 150ish a corner, Koni Yellows being 12 way (I think) Illuminas being 5 way adjustable dampining. Those and either Tein or Progress springs both around a 2" drop for around 200 bucks. Or a set of Basic dampers for the civic hatch of the same year from Tein go for around 750. This is all assuming your sporting a fwd wagon. HTH.

    well i was looking at

Tien SS- had these before on my old eg and was very happy with them but they are expensive. I can get them for $900 shipped

Skunk2- I know they make good stuff but i don't know anyone who has the suspension, so I don't know how it rides or looks. I can get this for $550 shipped.

ground control coilovers with ??- i know they are good but don't know which shocks to go with. I can get the ground controls for $290 shipped but don't know what shocks to go with.

omni coilovers- don't know anything about these. I can get them for about $600 shipped

anybody have or use any of these coilovers and can give me some info?
    thanks everyone!!!!!

I can't wait to get this wagon done :D

my dad has the Groundcontrol coilovers with Tokico Illuminas in his race car ('91 Si) and that set up he's been running for a while now, and he's pretty happy with it.

ive got skunk2 coilovers, and its not so bad. i went with Illuminas too, and its been fine so far. im not sure what everyone else is running....but that whole set up for me cost $490.

what area are you in? the coilovers i got were from California. my buddy scooped out some junkyards and found a guy selling a new set for $140. if you're in that area...a good week of searching will turn out some cheaper goods

Well, Id go with GC before I went with Skunk. Mainly because you can choose your spring rates and they use Eibach springs. A very good factor considering there is nothing wagon specific. That way you can dial in the setup specifically for you car

The Omnipower coilovers seem to have a good rep. I havent heard any negative feedback about them, thats got to be a plus. Bad reps travel fast in the Honda forums.

groundcontrol would be a good choice, but if you're not looking to autocross or anything along those lines, it would be a waste of money. so much money into a suspention setup not even used to its full potential.

Is that installed or maybe you meant the AGX?
I see GR-2s go for around $65 all the time.

I have to agree, they are the best replacement for stock in terms of expense vs performance. I've had three sets in different cars over the last ten years and have been very satisfied with each.
