hm, i should take some pics of mine. but i did something a bit different. instead of using blocks of wood, i got a long piece of metal with a L-shape to it. then to support the board all the way across the back, there are some thin wood pieces. i had to do this because of the wood i used. next time i do this tho, which is soon, it'll be MDF fasho
i'll take some pics soon...once the shocks go in i'll take pics
I've done a similar mod using the anchor points for the speaker pods...
Yes, my wagon came with those rare speaker pods but some jerk ripped out the speakers and damaged the pods in the progress... so I removed what was left and threw them out...
I'm now using the threaded anchor points to hold 2 square wooden bars to hold up the cargo cover...
What you found is the dealer installed option(also found in usdm wagons). The only prob is that anyone can peek throught the side rear quarter window & see what's underneath.
Recommendation:Tint the side window and throw in a small blanket to cover what ever you put back there. That way if some jerk looks. They'll think it's just a blanket under there.

Thx for identifying this part.
When I removed it from the wrecked car I noticed the bolts holding it down screwed right into the frame (through the body moulding) and looked factory, not something aftermarket.
When I installed it in my wagon I did not have the factory anchor points so I used sharp screws with washers and screwed right into the interior plastic body moulding.
well i wouldnt say thats entirely true ....
in my mind simple cars without extra shit is what makes hondas beautiful
in a world of big macs heated seats and enough airbags to cushion the titantic a simple little go cart makes me happy ......
audi now has a system which applies the brakes every 1.9 miles in wet weather to ensure dry rotors incase of an emergency stop
i can only imagine the complexity and premature wear and failures this will cause ... i worked at audi trust me they are the dumbest genius's ive ever seen thats why all there cars cost 40 thousand weigh 4,000 pounds and get 22 mile to the gallon ...
i realize that is a broad over exageration
now in 248,000 miles my crx hf has never died from a panic stop in the rain and it gets allmost 50 mpg ...... so what do all these engineers think they are acomplishing ......
and yea a nice cargo cover would rule .... i just wanted to bitch
its like a 500 dollar option on the new honda fit the cargo cover i mean .....
Checked into doing this...measured, put in sub to see where it would sit, etc. After looking at it, m 87 is much different layout than the 88-91 you guys have. Anyone done this in a 1st gen?
Comments
i'll end up re-doing mine so that it lifts when the trunk if lifted. mrwagovan has sparked some ideas for me

Turns out that's not entirely true...
I was at the wreckers the other day looking for a carb for my 87 Mazda B2000 when I chanced upon a 90s Civic Wagon... with a factory cargo cover...
This thing is like a roll-up blind and hooks onto the metal brackets that are also used to keep the rear seat back rests locked down...
Knowing that I had run into something original I dismantled it and casually asked the guy at the desk how much he wanted... I got it for $15 CDN !!!!
As soon as I figure how to post pics on this site I will show you guys what it looks like...

Can you explain??
Thx for the offer but I'm going to hang onto something this rare... :P
It looks factory instead of the plywood cover I had fabricated before.
Cheers !!

there ya go.
$500 quid for a cargo cover.
go figure.
How true...
My Honda has manual everything... tranny, locks, windows, seats... nothing electronic or electrical to go wrong...
The engine just turned over 375,000 kms and is going strong...
Mind you the body needs a little TLC, especially over the rear wheels, but I can handle that myself...
