i think i need to align my clutch disk after the shop took it off. now i need to put it back on but i have never done it so do i need to align it with the tool first?

i did try to put the tranny back on but it doesnt seem to want to close up so i can put the main bolts back on.

  • I always just use an extra input shaft that I have laying around. Works great!! I don't really know how that helps you though.

EDIT: I'm sure a local shop would let you borrow the "tool" if you can find someone that has it. You would only need it for a few minutes.

just curious if this is the problem.

i tried to center the disc in the back of the pressure plate with just eyeing it. then i tried to connect the tranny to the block. sometimes i get it in but the clutch arm wont engage even tho i get the block to mate up.

would the alignment tool be the key here? or is there something else the problem?

the clutch alignment tool allows the disk to be centered so that the input shaft from the tranny lines up. If you have the tranny mated up to the engine then you do not need the clutch alignment tool.

If the clutch arm won't engage then you are having a problem with your throwout bearing.

i was told down here that the arm should be very hard to pull by just my hands. so at this point im not sure if the throw out bearing is correct or not. i guess ill find out when i get the whole thing back in the car monday.
