Check out car-parts.com for transmissions (and whatever else). Good luck.
why look for shipping? buy one local, use your area code with that site, im sure somewhere within 100 miles has one?
luckily for the wrecking yard, there is a niche market willing to pay it, otherwise they would sit on those tranny's forever.
I have 2.
Took me almost 2 years to find any that weren't $1000+. Patience and a bit of luck helps.
First one i grabbed off ebay, ~ 550 shipped with the rear end. Has transfer case, but missing shifter cable bracket, and upper trans mount bracket.
Picked up a B20 manual complete swap (again off ebay) for $435, drove to NY and picked up. Very complete swap, including axels, cable shifter, cables and transmission mount/rear T bracket.
Also picked up a prop shaft off a salvage CRV, couple dents that won't affect my plans.
Next on the list is to make a B series LSD fit the dual ring gears.
I'd suggest keeping an eye on ebay, craigslist, and car-part.com, and be patient.
The bolt pattern is different for the plate that mounts onto the tranny. The starter is in a different place. The bolt pattern for the shifter cable bracket is different, not to mention a different confiuration. The bolt pattern for the hydro to cable converter (Hasport) is different. Those sit up a little higher. Ya, you pretty much have to redo all of it.
I bought everything for my conversion from U-fix-it Honda in Washington for 700 bucks. Tranny, transefer case, driveline, and diff. Im sure the prices have gone up, but they had the best deal at the time. That was three years ago now, damn.

My crv drivetrain is for my b series mini project. My wagon is getting a D16A1 + weber sidedrafts.
Oldschool mini? My jaw just hit the floor.......... Post a project log up when you get started. Not really the response I was expecting.
I already finished the front subframe YEARS ago, but a few things have put it on the back burner for quite some time (moving/house/marriage/wagovan...etc) . Just got parts for my TIG, so... maybe in the next year or so i'll have time to fab up the rear subframe and modify the front for the CRV trans.
as it sits:
Oh, i do have everything i need from a CRV to finish. I should tear into one of my crv trans and pull the diff soon and work on adapting a OBX LSD to the dual ring gears.
and while i'm posting... i just recently finished the crank trigger setup for the wagovan... so, it might get it's motor installed sooner than later.
EDIT: Nice work on the trigger wheel too! :P
um... i duno. I'd guess i'm the sole B series AWD mini person in the US. ringmini has a AWD D series mini (or two) in germany. and plenty of people have vauxhaul/busa/twin busa/smallblock all kinds of bizarre swaps in minis in europe.
When I got into the B-series subframe fabrication, I wanted to keep it with factory mini suspension locations/factory length front end. I did that quite a while ago ('03) before there were kits available. Now everyone and their mother stuffs a B series in a mini... but nobody has any traction, and everyone wants more power.... i'm going for lightness (with engine weighs in at 968lbs currently - minus glass, wiring, cooling system/etc..) , and RTawd (with a LSD up front) along with 10"x7" mags, and some meaty tires.
maybe it'll run in 8-10 years when i get around to it. shrug....
Get it running and invite me over for a break-in session. I'll just sit in the passenger seat with a giant boner the whole time.
