This is just a test vid I made today, but it looks promising:

I used a magnetic base from an old ham radio antenna, a right angle bracket, and a few nuts and bolts to make the mount for my little camera. I plan to use it at this Sunday's autocross. Many interesting angles should be possible.
Works on my motorcycle, too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sarDhuFeo1Q

Here's how I did it:
The magnetic base sticks... anywhere steel. I've got a small right angle bracket, a couple of nuts and bolts of the right sizes, and a Flip Video Ultra. That's really all there is to it. I used a ham radio antenna because that's what I have (if any other hams are wondering, my callsign is KA1ULT). A dead CB antenna mount could also work, as long as the bolt is a similar size.
The best part is that the bolt sticking out of the mount itself is also the proper size for the camera. I didn't shoot any footage with just the camera screwed directly to the mount and stuck to the hood or roof, but I could do that too.
Better luck in 2 weeks. And hey, at least I had this forum to fall back on for advice on how to get the damn thing out of there once it was loose! (As all forum moderators everywhere say... USE THE SEARCH!)
..but how exactly does that hing just stick there? super magnet? wouldnt it fall off if you hit bumps or the wind drag grabs it?
Check out the motorcycle cam video. I was doing 50mph for a while there, and it stuck OK - and to a surface that isn't perfectly flat, either. I'm using a very small camera, though - it's about the size and shape of the original iPod.
