4WD Diff questions

I was just wondering if anyone knew what the life span of the OEM diffs were. Are there 3 or just 2? How often is the rear engaged? From what I read, these are mainly just FWD cars until driving gets a little more agressive, or conditions change. The RealTime system. Does it kick in when the inside wheels slip? ... or the outside wheels grip? I need to research that one somemore. Since Honda came out with the RT system in the new Acura RL, I wonder if there will be any swapable components. What about from the AWD CRV? I know there are none, but I wonder how the RTi Wagon would react to a fixed (locked) or Phantom grip diff(s)? Just curious. I'd hate to screw up an already good system. Just looking for more grip and drivability.

Thats the RT4WD pretty much explained.

Theres three diffs... the front diff (front wheels) centre coupler and rear diff.

Lifetime is the same as any other provided you maintain it properly. If you thrash it then you run the risk of breaking stuff, the same as any car.

Theres one or two members who have locked the system up..

As for the CRV (97-01), it seems to have a very similar undertray and component setup, to the point where most stuff looks like it will bolt up.

Negative on that one, but making a bracket for it wont be all that difficult.

In terms of bolting up, i meant it looked like the rear subframe from the CRV would bolt up to the wagon underbody as the bolt holes are the same size and in the same places, but that was just speculation based on images i've seen on the previous board when Yenpit did a comparison...

Oh Yenpit, where for art thou?

Well, that could be true, but Im guessing its going to lower the diff a lot. I saw a CRV diff hanger at the junkyard and passed it up because of how far it would put the diff off the chassis. I actually want to get the diff closer so I can get a better angle on my axles seeing as how I want my car stuffed.

If it does bolt up and you want to lift your wagon it looks to be ideal.
