Exhaust shops can make a performance exhaust for relatively little expense. Instead of buying just a bolt-on muffler section, you can get the whole cat-back.
I've found that most regular style mufflers (with multiple chambers, not a straight thru design) can be made tolerable with some planning and forethought.
Firstly, 2.25' is plenty sized pipe diameter (unless you're forced induction). Make sure you keep your cat. For the 1/2 hp you are gain by replacing it with a "test" pipe, it isn't worth the increased emissions or noise.
Second, run a mid pipe resonator. This can be a straight thru muffler, like a cherry bomb or bullet style muffler. A resonator knocks the volume down several decibels and even lowers the exhaust tone.
Next is the muffler. There are a lot of choices, but I prefer something well known like a Borla or Flowmaster (50 or 70 series) but Dynomax and Magnaflow are all right.
Last is a tip. I prefer to run a resonated tip. It's the last chance to check noise without impacting flow. Keep the size halfway sane.
If you want a little additional insurance against noise, ther are weld and bolt in inserts that interupt sound waves with minimal effect on flow. They work.
Unfortunately that will be just as loud as the Tenzo muffler, if not louder. TRR make a twin-loop which is good quality and allows you to run the muffler directly out the rear right, keeping the exhust system in a relatively straight line. Its roughly as loud as a stock muffler under 3k but if you put your foot down they make a real nice purr.
