side trim.

i know after you take it off, most of the clips break and you can't reuse them.

what kind of glue/sealent should i use to put my trim on?

thanks guys.

edit:

also, what brand and kind of paint should i use for my stock rims? high heat? and what kind of prep? just sanding? fine sanding with 1000 grit? then paint, use some rubbing compound, maybe another coat?

if you take them off carefully you can do so without breaking the clips. if you REALLY wanna be careful, take off the interior door panels then squeez the ends of the clips so they slide out of the door.

if you just want to go ahead and silicone it, there is this stuff called "automotive silicone" that my friend used to glue his trim pieces on.. so far so good.

painting: there is no need for high-heat paint. just any old spray paint will work. for prepping, first sand with a rough-grit like 100 to get the old paint and rust, etc loosened up. you dont need to sand to bear metal, but just enough to make all the surfaces rough. if you have any rust though i'd go ahead and sand that down to shiny metal. then spray your first coat of paint... let dry for a day or so. then sand with a finer frit like 200, and then apply a second coat of paint. make sure between each sand job that you wash all the dust and such off.

thanks man, but, wouldnt from the brakes heating up so much high heat paint would be a good idea?

i mean, it's less likely to chip off then just regular metal paint.

unless i use rustoleom black with white trim on the oem rims that came on my wagon. there not the rims with all the small holes, there a different kind.

the cars gonna be black, maybe satin black?

then, black and smoke grey interior.

oh and man, that car didnt have speaker pods, i thought it did! my bad on that one.

it doesnt heat up that much. i used regular paint on my steelies and so far so good. but i doesnt hurt to use high-temp, haha.

that sucks about the speaker pods. :(
  • I used some regular paint on my hatch steelies and the center started to fade after a while because of heat from the brakes. That was back when I beat the crap out of my cars and got the brakes smoking once a month, so you may not have any problem with regular paint.

yeah man, sorry about the pods, if i trade my head rests for a set i might consider selling or trading for some clear corners.

but, for the most part, im going to use high heat because of the brakes. plus the humidity, sun, etc etc. i'm just gonna be on the safe side, thanks boys!
