thing thing happened to me. she would start but then sputter and choke out. i changed the cap and rotor and she ran fine again. cap was $12 and the rotor was $9 at autozone.
Exactly what I was going to suggest.
The screw that holds the rotor button on inside your distributor cap could have came loose. It happened to me once...died just like you explained. Got it back home, took off the cap, and there lied the rotor button. Locktite and put the screw back on...golden. If it's not as easy as that, it could still be your distributor...
If you've gotta, go to the junkyard and find any 88-91 Civic/CRX/Wagon distributor and get it. You won't know 100% if it's good, but it's cheap solution. I'd definitely take off the distributor cap and see if you see anything loose, dust, or anything that doesn;'t look normal. Stick with it dude...
When was the last time you did a tune up? What did the inside of your cap look like, and how did the rotor look? A fresh set of plugs, new cap and rotor can do wonders for a car sometimes.
oh damn... well yeah, definitly an oil change and all that good stuff. dont drive the wagon too hard for the first week or so. let it get back in the "game" smoothly
yeah, it's an automatic, and yeah, i'd guess you'd call it slipping, it's like when i give it a little pack of punch on the gas it redlines almost and sometimes whenever it trys changing gears i have to let off the gas for it to change
ok, it seems that the owners manual doesnt have the info how to change it. just how to check. anyways.. someone with a Shop manual will have to find it for you
since you fixed the whole rotor issue i just scanned you the transmission one. let me know if it's hard to read. i can re scan then e-mail you the bigger file

SOHC = single over-head cam. DOHC = dual over-head cam. these are engines like the B16A, B18A, H22A..etc.
our stock wagons are SOHC because out engines only have one cam :P
and the 2WD wagons have a D15B2 engine, regardless of tranny

if you know anyone with crx or civic dx, maybe you could try their dizzy if the cap and rotor don't fix it.
i pulled my dizzy's cap off and my rotor pulled right out.... it didnt have any kind of bolt...screw...or anything holding it in
njcivicwagon said it should be screwed it? when i spun it with my fingers it made a sqeaking sound. is that normal?
shes alive though, shes blowing some black fumes and i can smell gas really bad.
i think shes just really low on oil and i know she needs antifreeze
anything else that would cause this?
Glad to hear that it is running now.

last tuneup was in probably 04 or 05 maybe 06
how long has the car been sitting?
i'm draining the oil in a minute and the radiator
then im gonna fill up the tank and put some gas cleaner in it. then let it run for a bit.
it sit about damn, it sat since the end of last summer, around august.
now theres a new problem, say im going around a turn or just cruizing and give it a little gas, it almost redlines, it rev's up really bad.
:?: i'm hoping it just needs transmission fluid.
you mean the tranny is slipping?
idk much about auto trannies and such. maybe this problem will go away too with a bit of driving...?
wheres the bolt to drain my fluid? and how much does it hold?
thanks martin. (im getting good, im using names. haha.)
here is the only page about it.
its quite simple really though...
hxcforlife has a manual and he's going to scan me off a few pages, i'll get him too add on the transmission flush page while he's at it.
thanks martin.
i'll flush it this week and put some in it.
is there a certain kind i should use?
so says it up there ^^
no problem Michael
