  • Do you have a 2wd or 4wd? The 2wd model needs to be converted to MPFI...that's good for roughly 10hp.

The standard Intake, header, exhaust can't go wrong.

    A nice cam (I like Exospeed's)
  • its 2wd
  • Okay, before you start down the performance modification road, you need to establish two things:

    -Goal.
Either how much horsepower you want to make or how fast you want to run the 1/4 mile or be able to beat x car...etc etc.
Or plan to build with a specific purpose in mind, like autox or show.

    -Budget.
Whether its a concrete figure, a percentage of your income or just whatever you have left over after paying rent/child support/crack habit etc each month. Be realistic.

Then we can make suggestions and recommendations that are better than random stabs in the dark.

what modifications do you have in mind
  • any kind of pretty easy modifacations would be good would be nice i want it to be quick but i want to do it with the least amount of money and the least amount of money im not trying to make it jsut to race with but if i was in a race i want to have a good chance
  • lol...so you want to go fast for not a lot?
Sorry, it doesn't work that way. If you don't want to pay, you're not going to go much faster. Between the DPFI and auto tranny, you're not going to beat anything more than a Geo Metro or Ford Aspire.

On the most absolute ghetto cheap:

    Sub $20:
free - advance your ignition timing 2-4 degrees
$8 - new spark plugs. Standard NGK
$10 - bottle of NOS off road formula fuel additive.
$20 - home made cold air intake. Remove the plastic intake pipe that goes into the front of the airbox. Remove the resonator in the bumper...now cut out/drill a hole in the lower bumper where its obvious a vent is supposed to be. Now buy some tubing from Home Depot and duct cold, outside air into the intake box.

If you decide to spend a few bucks, start in this order
    1. Get a larger diameter(2.25") exhaust system fabricated at a local muffler shop. [$100-150] +3-5 hp
    2. Get on Ebay and find a cone filter/intake pipe. [$40 shipped] +2-4 hp
    3. Start looking for MPFI parts. You should be able to get everything for under $150. +10 hp
    4. Buy an Exospeed camshaft [$200] +5-7hp
    5. Look for a ZEX nitrous kit [$450] +50hp

Also a good service should help i.e oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, etc. and check to make sure all sensors are working fine.

^^^Agreed. Cap, rotor, wires, and nothing but NGK plugs. The ones the car came with. No platiniums, or splitfires or any of that other crap thats severly overpriced. AND use only Honda cap and rotor. Honda electronics are very touchy. You can get cap and rotor kits from Honda for 27 bucks. Weve also found that stock plug wires have less resistance than a lot of the "big" names that offer plug wires. If you insist on changing them use NGK.

Seconded, NGK is factory Honda stuff and its really good. Honda spend absolutely phenominal ammounts of money on research... just crazy, but in the end theres a better result for you, the customer. :D
