which shocks should i get?

guys, please help me.

i read most of the threads in connection with lowering a wagon, and want to make sure i got everything right.

so, to lower a wagon:

1. either i use EF struts with DA springs (2 dead coils cut off) for the front and the rear as well,
2. or EF struts with EF lowering springs (compensation for the weight-difference between EF and EE)
3. or EF coil-over set.

and, to use EF shocks built in the same year as the wagon was.
the if thats not correct, please tell me.

i wouldnt go for the first opportunity (cutting some dead coils off), so lets focus on the second and third option.

for these solutions i did some research what i can get here, in Hungary.
if you would be as kind as to check them, and tell your opinions, i would really appreciate it:

shocks:

1. KONI Special shocks
[Civic Sedan / Hatchback (EC / ED / EE) (as from serie no. S 100.000) 89-91]

front: ~ 120 USD
rear: ~ 128 USD

2. KONI Sport shocks
[Civic Sedan / Hatchback (EC / ED / EE) (as from serie no. S 100.000) 89-91 ]

front: ~ 135 USD
rear: ~ 145 USD

3. BILSTEIN TC shocks
(http://www.bilstein.com/mistore/ymm_productf.php?company_id=100484&year=1991&model_id2=1351&makes=HONDA&storedimg.x=1&storedimg.y=1&storedimg=1&storeYMM=storeYMM)

front: ~ 130 USD
rear: ~ 110 USD

4. BILSTEIN HD shocks (link is the same)

front: ~ 175 USD
rear: ~ 175 USD

5. KAYABA Excel G shocks

front: ~ 155 USD
rear: ~ 180 USD

(no other KYBs available through retailers here and eBay wouldnt be the best solution, shipping costs would be simpoly too much :( )

6. SKUNK2 Sport Shocks

all four for ~ 490 USD

so as you can see, theres not much difference in prices, so i just want to get your opinions on which shocks i should get.

next thing is springs, heres what i found:

1. EIBACH Pro-Kit (lowering 1.2" front, 1.0" rear) ~ 400 USD

2. SKUNK2 adjustable coilovers ~ 440 USD

full coilover sets:

SKUNK2 full coilovers PRO-S ~ 1050 USD

i really would like to know what you think, any ideas, suggestions, advice would be appreciated.

thanks in advance

(for mods: i know there's a lot of topics in connection with lowering wagons, but please, respect foreign not-born-to-be-a-mechanic noob members w/ poor english, and do not close this topic until i get some advice that will help to choose the right set for my car :) thanks)

    you have it right.

i would go for the third option... full coilover damper set.

not sure about your budget, but i can find you a set of Tein Basic dampers for about $720 or the next up, Tein SS for about $940...

It's safe to assume everyone tries to stay within a budget when shopping for suspension items, unless you have deep pockets then the skies the limit....

From the list you mentioned above, my opinion would be to go with the Koni Sport (yellow) shocks.............. and compliment them with some Ground Control Coilover sleeves and their coils made by Eibach.

thanks for the quick response ;)

unfortunately, i couldnt find any Tein retailers here, so i did not really check their products.

the prices you mentioned wouldnt be a problem, considering, these parts will hopefully serve me for years...

    1000 USD is still fine.

the point is, i just want to drop the car a lil' bit, not build it for track or anything, so makes no sense using the most sporty set ;)

anyway, i will check those Teins. the only question, how to ship it here...

the Skunk2 Pro-S is $589 over here.... if you want me to help you out i can. you can have it shipped to my house and i'll ship it out to Hungary. it would still be cheaper i believe then paying $1000 for them
  • ksport full coilovers $575 shipped to my door with 12k springs for the front and 10k for the rear. ksport will go all the way up to 20k springs i know cause i called and asked
  • mejtemejte Band Wagon
what do 10k, 12k and 20k exactly stand for? sorry to ask you such noob questions but - as i mentioned above - im a real antitalent when it comes to mechanics.

and what TIMELESSWHITE wrote, the "Ground Control Coilover sleeves" that's another good riddle for me :)

if theres a thread somewhere discussing it, its fine if you copied the link here instead of a detailed answer ;)

    thanks
