im 99% sure its your Main Relay.

when you put the key to "on" do you here a *click* under the dash when your engine check light turns off? if not then it means your Main Relay is ghey.

check that first. second, check your ECU for any codes that it might be blinking.

if its the main relay, try clicking your key on-off on-off on-off over and over again until you here it click, then try cranking your car. i had this problem and that helped a bit.

went out and checked it. when the engine light goes off it DOES make a click sound. also no check engine lights or anything like that. i did notice today that i was almost completely out of oil so i added some. apparently my pcv valve is bad also.

even if the check engine light doesnt stay one when you first crank it that doesnt mean it isnt flashing a code.

    you might wanna check that..

how to check the ECU code?

i found this little bit i wrote on a different thread:
    wagodizzle wrote:
well first off are you getting spark? are you getting fuel?

if you arent getting spark it could be:

    a.) main relay
b.) distibutor (or perhaps just the cap and rotor, also check spark plugs and wires)
    c.) grounds

if you arent getting fuel check:

a.) MAIN RELAY, quite possible the #1 reason many older Hondas wont start. it controls the fuel pump prime, when you put the key to the "ON" position you should here a click and the fuel pump prime. listen for this click sound from under the dash, it usually clicks after the check engine light goes out. also listen for the fuel pump. NOW, if you here the clicking but no fuel pump it could be:
    b.) bad fuel pump.

to check your ECU codes you have to:

if you dont know how to do this then follow these steps:

-the ecu is located under the pass. side carpet. pull back the carpet.
-you will see a bronze colored metal plate. the ecu is under this. there will be a small window on this plate. under the window is a little LED light that blinks codes.
-count the blinks. if it blinks 4 times then pauses, then blinks 10 times, pauses, then repeats 4 times, then 10. etc means that you have codes 4 and 10. you could have less or more, it all depends. anywho, so get this numbers.

now that you have the codes check this link:

    hope this helps.

dudee, i just had this problem.

check and make sure it's getting fuel, see if the ecu is throwing any codes

REMOVE YOUR DISTRUBUTER'S CAP AND MAKE SURE YOUR ROTOR IS BOLTED IN.

replace the dizzy cap and rotor, wires, plugs.

make sure it's getting spark, air and fuel.

compression check, if you can afford it

take it to a shop and have diognostics ran on it. (around 45 obo.)
