AWD Civic Transmission problems

Hi, new to the site hopefully somebody can help me out

ok, i just recently finished swapping in my jdm dohc zc motor in my 89 AWD Wagon, motor started up fine and everything, the problem is i cannot put the car into gear when the motor is running (goes in fine when motors not running), i can start the car in first and being forceful i can get the car into the other gears, but it refuses to shift or put anykinds of power down..

Before the swap i installed a new exedy organic clutch kit and the throw and piliot bearings so i dont think that that's the problem

I tightened up the clutch cable as much as possible but that only got rid of my lack of pedal pressure, a friend tried suggesting trimming the rubber stopper on the clutch cable that prevents too much slack so that i can tighten it up more, does anybody have any other ideas to what the problem may be?

This is just pissing me off because i was hoping to be boosted by now, and this is just put everything to a hault..cmon wagon gods..help me out

Even though you got new clutch kit and bearings, it honestly sounds like that might be where the problem is..

Did you use the wagon clutch and flywheel?

  DON'T TRIM those rubber stoppers :!: :!: :!:
There should be about a inch(25mm) of freeplay in the clutch pedals.
Was the tranny removed during the swap :?: Did you put back the cable shifter(not clutch) brkt & adj. them :?: Was the trans oil removed :?:
  • Tranny was removed during the swap, had the flywheel off of the jdm ZC resurfaced and am using that. Has proper amount of trans. fluid..

i only considered trimming the stopper because i was thinking of replacing the clutch cable and those componets since theres the possibility it could be shot. Would that account for my problem?

It actually seems like the pressure plate isn't clamping down properly
  • I had the same problem with the swap on my 87...turned out to be a combination of the cable being too tight and an incompatible throwout bearing. While the throwout bearing problem is specific to the pre 88, you should check the cable.
I realize it doesn't feel right, but you should run the cable through its range of adjustment in small increments. Test the shifting after each increment. If it does become able to shift, you know its in the adjustment...then you can concentrate on the free play.
  • I'll give the cable adjusting another shot, im kind of clueless as to what i should do now, i just got the motor in and im not exactly pumped about taking it again to check the bearings/clutch/what ever the hell is stopping me from getting into gear

  • TO brg = throwout bearing

...for those who might not recognize the abbreviation.

Shit..i think that might be it, prostreet had originally sent me a clutch kit for the 1990 awd(mines and 89) , but then Only sent me the right disk, not to mention the Original box was shaddy as hell, it had the part number scratched off and a new one written on it.

Yeah, I got a exedy clutch kit off Ebay, and it had the wrong throw out bearing. They aren't too terribly expensive.
