4wd vibrations

Last year I had some vibrations in the drivetrain to the rear. The U joint failed on the rear propeller shaft. I replaced it with a new one. Vibration gone.

Last week I start noticing a similar vibration. Mostly in first and second gear and worse when getting into the throttle. It is now unmanageable in 1st or 2nd when I stomp the gas. It seems to smooth out above 30 mph. I also notice that the rear diff "clunks" when I engage the clutch. Not smooth at all. It seems I am shocking the rear diff every time I let the clutch out.

I crawled under the car today and found, to my surprise, that all of my u joints seem to be good. Could the problem be in the viscous coupler? The rear diff?

look at the diff mounts- like progress. and/or mid-shaft bearing.

Yup, check your diff mounts. My driver's side upper mount had ripped apart from the body of the car were it was bolted due to rust. Left a nice sized hole too! Check my thread in Suspension, Braking and Wheels thread for how we fixed it.

All my rear diff. mounts need to be replaced though as the rubber was all torn and not very elasticy anymore!

Check all possible culprits... Wheel balance, warped brake rotors, bad bushings, just to name a few...
