alternator change calling out rt4wd owners

if ya dont know now ya know. i own a 91 rt4wd. well the alternator went out and i have to change out a new one. theres not enough clearance up top to take it out. some people have told me to take out the axle and bracket and lower it down. well after looking at that situation it seems that the intermediate shaft will get in the way. just seeing how other rt4wd owners have changed out there alternators

I took me less than 1 hr to do R+R on a 91 teggy(neighbor) ...meaning taking susp loose taking axle out (not from spindle of course) and putting it back ...On a teggy you gotta take bracket off...on a RT no...there is plenty room there!!
Shop wants 140...bollocks, bunch of rip-offs...
And that is w/o having my real tools with me...

I tried to wiggle my rtawd alternator out from the bottom without luck. I never pulled an axle so this method seemed easy and worked well for me.

  • As stated before. I take the master cylinder loose to get it out.

With all the tinkering I've done with wagons and I've never done it this way, super nice. I have always taken my axle out lol
  • I was successful getting the alternator out from the bottom driver side. Had to turn the wheel; I think to the left. You'll have to play around to figure it out.

I usually shoot off the bottom ball joint to get full swing out of the way
