Well it's time to buy new shocks, what kind?

Alright, I've decided that my shocks on my Wagon are sucking it up pretty bad and now Im looking to buy new ones..

Right now I have aftermarket OEM replacement shocks in the front, and OEM rear shocks with Skunk2 springs and some eBay coil-over sleeves in the back lifting it up to match the front.. (I can dump the back end to the ground or raise it up higher than stock..)

Now, being as the Wagon is heavier than your normal Civic, wouldn't the valving and rebound settings for the Civic be different from the Wagon? Or are the part numbers the same?

It seems like I heard that the 90-93 Integra shocks will work, and since the Integra is around 300 pounds more than the Wagon, wouldn't that give it a harsher ride? Or is the part numbers the same again?

Or am I making the suspension thing to complicated? I'm used to working on the valving of shocks on dirtbikes/atvs, and it's the same basic principles so I think cars would be the same..

Any input to help me out?

I'm kinda wanting to keep the coil-overs in the back of the wagon cause it looks mean when it's dumped all the way down.. And coil-overs ride bad so I'd like to keep the Skunk2 full-length springs...

Another option is to buy OEM replacements and cut the springs. A friend did that on his Sunfire and he says it rides about like stock suspension.

Advice, please.

I HAD THE SAME THOUGHT IN MIND WHEN I WANTED TO DROP MY WAGON. I JUST WENT WITH WHO IN THE HONDA FAM HAS THE MOST WEIGHT. I REALY WANTED A NICE RIDE ALSO NOT TO MUCH BOUNCE WHILE ON THE ROAD. ALSO WHO HAS ALMOST THE SAME COIL DESIGN THAT WILL WORK. SO I WENT WITH HONDA ACCORD. DONT EVER CUT YOUR SPRINGS THE SRING IS DESIGNED TO COMPRESS AT ITS WEAKS POINT. TAKE AWAY THE TOP AND THE COIL WILL WEAR OUT FASTER OR SHATER. IT HAPPONED TO A FRIEND OF MINE ON THE HIWAY. SO THE COIL OVER OR LOWERIN SPRINGS ARE THE WAY TO GO. I HAD MY COIL OVERS FOR OVER 4 YEARS. STILL HAVE A NICE RIDE. TRY IT YOULL FEEL THE DIFFRENCE RIGHT AWAY. ALSO IF YOU CAN CHANGE THE SHOCK TOWER BOOTS IT WILL BE A GREAT HELP. HAVE FUN PEACE.
  • So the Accord shocks will work on the Wagon?

    What year?

    YES 91-93 THEY WORK GREAT
  • Stop being lazy and turn the all caps off!!!

Just get you a nice set of coilovers from a CRX. I have a set of Tein SS from a crx and haven't had a problem yet. Fully adjustable with helper springs for 500 bucks and still riding smooth after almost two years.

sell your Skunk2 coils and then buy Tein Basic Dampers... things ride beautifully.
  • No. My Skunk2 springs ride fine, it's just that the shocks are sucking it up..

Springs are made to asorb a big load and weight of the car, while the valving and rebound soaks up the small stuff..

    Crappy shocks = crappy ride..

So what kind of shocks should I get basically..
  • Personally, I would just put on ef shocks. I believe the integra shocks will bottom out sooner than the ef shocks. The weight shouldn't really matter all that much, it is about as heavy as any other ef that always got driven with a passenger.

yeah just get EF shocks. tokico makes em nice and cheap. or just get Skunk2 shocks.

    OR

  • Tein suck balls.

I like Skunk2 because they make everything and make 350 N/A 4cylinder engines.

I think I'll just get regular EF shocks..

Only thing is that I like the full adjustability of the coilovers in the rear due to the wagon shocks..

    I'll figure out something..

Koni's are nice shocks. don't have them on the wagon yet, but their on my eg. and the handling and ride quality is great
  • I personally have used illuminas for 2ish years and they are great. For a daily driver that will sometimes see the track I think they are perfect and you can save some dough over the konis.

So I have a 91 2wd. looking for some help to change my struts? I'm thinking of getting the tokico blue I have a ground control coilovers installed.

So any recommendation other than the Tokico blue?

Just having a hard time to find and do some research on a strut? what kind of strut that will fit my 91 wagon?

this all depends also on what is your budget?

I just went with some cheapo Spring Techs. They do the job and ride a hell of a lot better than before..

Like $180 for 4 with shipping.. Or something like that.. I don't remember.. Maybe it was $160.. I dunno.

I was wondering about those struts... There isn't much written about them. I would love to hear your reviews of them after you've driven them for awhile.

Budget I can say I dont want to go crazy, I just want a comfortable ride and as well that will served me well. I am more concern about which one will fit. I am looking at Product ID: skunk2-08-541-05-1200
Skunk2 SPORT SHOCKS - SET OF 4 - HONDA CIVIC / CRX 1988-91 (ALL MODELS) - 541-05-1200, But can anyone tell me which strut will fit a friend told me that a crx struts will fit my 91 wagon.
