Forgive Me, I Had a Moment of Weakness

My wife's on-going problems with her left knee have made it nearly impossible to operate a clutch. Since we had none, I had to start looking for something with an automatic. I HATE automatics! Automatic RTs are even scarcer than standards, so I started looking for something more modern that would fit. I decided the Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe AWD was the best match, having similar fuel-economy, excellent reliability and low cost of ownership. Just before Christmas I found an '06 Matrix with 185k for $4,450 out-the-door.

God forgive me, on the drive home, I was thinking I might have to get one for myself, replacing the RTs.

After 3 weeks of driving it and getting it up to speed (new stereo, snow tires, upgraded armrest etc.), I've come to my senses. It's heavy, sluggish and has no soul. The AWD (actually on-demand 4WD with a viscous coupler, just like an RT4WD) is only available with an automatic. Did I mention that I HATE automatics? While perfect for mama, and much more socially acceptable, it's just not for me.

I now appreciate my RTs that much more. I smile every time I get in and start up. They are quick, agile and much more sure-footed than the Matrix. They are simpler and more durable. You have to shift the transmission, crank the windows, unlock the doors one at a time and use a gauge to check the tire pressure. They are more practicality, less luxury. They are me.

Forgive me Father, for I have sinned.
