Nice upgrade! Slowly making it even better. Your wagon is so lucky to get ur OCD TLC!

lols yeah, hella ocd... I thought the 84-85 cluster would be kind of a subtle nod to the lines on the shuttle graphics you made... ya know..?

I do need to mount the roof rack I got for it... Need to dig up that thread you made about some tool that you got??? I hunt for that thread now... maybe it was in your build thread???

Yes the details are in my build thread. Click link below. My tool was from harbor freight tools tho
  • Those 85 headlights look so good. They really change the feel of the front end.

no Nikon car charger. I knew I hadnt used my Nikon in a while but I thought 1 of the 3 batteries would have some juice left in it.

    more updates...

Got roof rack installed last night.

As per Prennro's build thread- I picked one of these up.
    56.jpg

Measure measure measure. Sharpie lines everywhere. Drill holes. Prennro told me to silicone around the anchors before putting them in, so i did. Use Riveter. Let silicone dry. Use alcohol or nail polish to remove sharpie lines. install rack.
    57.jpg

The rack i purchased from 25honda.com, It was painted black, but last weekend I ran into the Wagon at the yard and it still had its chrome roof rack rails on it- so I picked them up... Now I just need to remove the black paint from the roof rack bars.

    All done

  • Yep yep those rivnuts are awesome things. Fortunately I already had the roof rack installed, I'd be sweating making sure I got those measurements right. I guess there is a bit of wiggle room in the tracks though isn't there?

Hopefully the sun will be kinder to you up there. On my wagon when I moved those middle cross strips it looked like they had been in place for two decades, and possibly had. Paint was totally different under there.

Of course the little rubber seal under them tends to pick up road dirt and ick and leaves some nice scratches when you do decide to move them. Not sure if there's any way around that.

Not a whole lot of wiggle room at all. lols. You have to be pretty precise. Its kind of a scary situation for sure.

As for the sun- the wagon has spent its life in Arizona- so there really isn't much paint left on the roof or the hood. lols.

    Small update:
Replaced the front door speakers because the rattling was driving me insane. Unfortunately, I think the radio's ability to pick up stations is also a contributing factor. I will probably replace it- with an updated OEM stereo of some sort- probably out of an EF or Older Accord. Which ever comes my way first. I wanted to keep the OEM deck but its just so shitty.

    Original 28 year old speakers

Luispin picked these up for me. I'm in the process of re-finishing them to better suit the wagon. Will post updates once installed.

O also got these, fresh from Cheddasauto. Extended tophats.

Broke my foot skateboarding, but still have wagon work that to do... Off to Home Depot for some indoor/outdoor carpeting.
    115.jpg

Speaker pods in progress.... hesitating on using the black carpet now..... may need to head back to Home Depot... or other ideas to fill in the top area, I want wood grain. I was thinking maybe actual wood? Should I just ship these to Prennro for some of his wood working skills???

I got some cheap sticky linoleum at Home Depot... Ya know woodgrain....
    117.jpg
  • Ha! That's definitely another way to go about it. I'd be tempted myself to get some thin 1/8" or so plywood and actually bend it and fab up a box. Laminate two pieces of the 1/8" together that way it holds the curves.

Would you be able to bolt on a one piece box still or would it absolute have to split so you have access to all the fasteners inside?

Let me know I'd be willing to take a crack at building some myself out of plywood, I think it would be fun. You could just stain them to the right color as needed.

yeah you would have to have some super thin/flexible/pliable wood... Like the the same width has linoleum? The bend in the speaker pods is very slight. I'd prefer real wood too, this was more of an experiment. I may keep it? I may go back to black carpet? I may buy a jigsaw. I dunno. Of all the tools I have- I really dont have many (or any) wood working tools.

It would be pretty easy to cut with a template. plus im gonna have to make the actual cargo cover- preferably out of wood, not linoleum. lols.
  • I actually have a steamer and steam setup for bending pieces of wood. I'd just have to rework something to fit plywood, but I bet I could direct the steam right at the bend points. You'd be amazed how much more flexible steamed wood is. It raises the grain a bit but you just knock that right back down. I think it could be done. But yeah if you can get me some templates or something we could plan this out a little further. I could even just get some generic plywood at the home depot, that way you could get the same product out that way and it wouldn't look completely different once stained and finished.

I'm currently in the middle of doing wood flooring in my living room, so I have that remodel going on, along with working on the MG. But I imagine I could find some time to assist with this if you'd like to collaborate.

Thanks man, I appreciate the offer... If I get aggressive/ambitious with it later- I may take you up on the offer!

Not perfect, but will do for the time being...

  • Saw your post on IG, you should have speaker wires running along the wheel wells under the interior plastics. Mine did at least.

  • Sweet man, I need to adjust my cover eventually it sags a bit. The finish looks nice with the interior.
  • Those covers really fit the feel of the car, maybe more than a woodgrain patter would. I dig.

Thanks yeah, it was hard to find a spray paint that matched, this was as close as I could get via spray paint anyways.

Not really much to report. I dropped the wagon off at Don's Carburetor repair today. It's running fine, but smells gassy? Not sure the issue, hopefully its nothing major?

Got chrome window cranks because i spend too much time on the internet...

Heard back from Don's Carburetor shop; Fuel pump was bad. I have not heard how much its going to cost me to replace? Or when I will get the wagon back... lols.. But I am in no rush, it's winter.

In other news. New Rear suspension. I never heard of B&G?, but there are not a ton of options for this old wagon, so quite literally- beggars can't be choosers.
